Land Rover put 9.00 16 tyres on the SIII chassis with extended hangers. The SIII Australian Army chassis IS a 1 Ton chassis.
The difference between a SIII Au Army and a 1 Ton is that the 1 Ton has a lower ratio steering box than standard Land Rovers and the 1 Ton also have an all helical gear low ratio transmission. That said many 1 Ton owners have retrofitted the standard ratio boxes because it improves road speed but reduces off road performance.
While the original 1 Ton's had ENV 4.7:1 ratio diffs and the early SIII 1 Ton had Salisbury fronts they subsequently returned to standard Rover front diffs.
