Canberra Coffee & Chat
« on: June 26, 2017, 07:30:26 PM »
Some Canberra Ex-Mil Landy owners are getting together for a chit chat and coffee at a cafe. Its not a REMLR event, its just a local social.

Ex-Mil Landy meeting - Canberra: Sat 8 July, 1pm, coffee cafe (near lakeside) at Yarralumla Play Station http://www.yarraps.com.au (dogs and kids on leash are okay).

Why? coffee, chit chat and "LETS PLAN A TRIP" (day inbound -overnight- day outbound) to Bendethera or similar. All ideas welcome. Private property? Farmstay? NPark?

Maybe I should have said its a lakeside, there's a floating pier, they could drown, the road is not fenced and has lots of traffic -letting your kids run free could have a downside if you are too distracted by Land Rovers etc, etc.
Also, quirky expressions get attention. One I heard the other day was "...mad as a box of frogs." Its a trick.

Often see them around shopping centres.
I wouldn't pat them, though. They could bite.

The meeting went well. I hope other people in other places try something similar to help make 2018 Events as well attended as possible. The time to do something is right now.

Anyway, there was plenty of room in the carpark due to the overcast and cold weather at the park. There were quite a few mods to look at on 4 Perenties and a County Wagon (factory 4BD1 that has just done a Simpson crossing last month). See pics on a separate thread.

Once inside the cozy cafe we had a chat about 2018 - the Year Of The Land Rover at Corowa in mid-march and the 70th Anniversary Celebration at Cooma over Easter. Made plans to spread the word and place a "You're Welcome To Join Us..." type poster in a strategic location with a contact phone number.

Canberra Campfire: some attendees have been on other 4wd camps and trips recently and provided excellent knowledge about various possible destinations. A overnight camp was decided upon -after much discussion- in a close location where the general public has no access.

Facebook vs REMLR forum. This initialising event/meeting was publicised using both. Only two of the attendees used Fbook.

It turns out that we are all "old school" IMHO and use the phone as the method of contact: we all know each other directly or know one person who will tell the other they know personally. If someone did find out about the meeting via the internet... well its mostly human nature coming into play - people are too shy to attend as they don't know anyone there.

IMHO if we get to know more LR people, chances are that more people will attend LR events. Basic stuff that works - we're not re-inventing the wheel here.

Ross, ? where is the separate thread/pix of the 110 simpson trip, as you may know we did the French Line back 1994, left 3 railway sleepers with an envelope with all our details in apparently no-one has found it as yet, cheers Dennis

All my Kodachrome film got wet and ruined LOL. No, I didn't go on that Desert trip, I'm not in the club.

The club website overall looks classy: https://lrc.org.au

fantastic trip report that is only available to members until christmas or something: https://lrc.org.au/trip-reports/series-over-the-simpson-may-june-2017

All I know is Adam said his County did not get stuck on the dunes... whereas many other vehicles did. Adam said he had a clutch master cylinder play up but managed ok. It is a reliable family truck - 4 school age children. VGC and much loved. He got it in 2001 I think he said. Also has a Stage 1 wagon (v8) and his GS Perentie he rebuilt.

Not bad to put out a quick "REMLR TV report" within about 6 hours of getting home. This morning I re-exported it in HD, the stupid default on the software is LD. Just another of life's speed bumps. Still, learnt some more about making vids.

Sadly that club website doesn't allow anyone but members to view, yet we share information freely and how many of them would have accessed AULRO/REMLR over the years, anyway ***t happens cheers Dennis

It is a club of members who pay to be a member and the information contained is for the use of members - why not join and then you can access the website - fees are now being accepted.  No different really to the open and closed sections of many forums - including this one.

Also your point about them using REMLR and AULRO is not at all relevant.  While the Club did start out in the early 60s as a Land Rover club, this is no longer the case and for a very long time it has been a 4wd Club for all makes and these days probably only half of the Club drive Landrovers.  It does have a sub group which is just for leaf sprung landrovers.

Well, I could say the same the same thing about my resto blogs, keep all the information to myself and not share it, and while I agree there are areas in many websites you cant access what is the big secret about a trip, in my opinion it could encourage others to join, and some of their images are on F/book, cjheerrs dennis

Hi, sorry you missed it but another is in October, we couldn't do one in August, and September is busy as the Sydney Expo is on and other things are happening. Look forward to meeting up.
