So in the FFR the 24v system is powered by a 28v generator rather than a 28v alternator.

That is what I understand. I don't have one to look at.

In British military parlance a Dynamo is invariable referred to as a Generator. But an Alternator can be referred to as a Generator or an Alternator.

Is the 24v thing in question a Generator No.10? In which case it is an Alternator.

From the emei;

"Alternator
5. The vehicle is fitted with an NSN 2920-66-095-0364 Generator, Engine Accessory, 100 A 28 V dc. For a detailed description of the alternator refer to EMEI Electrical P 412."

It needs to be excited, there are three terminals for it, positive, negative and a exciter feed which is fed by the 24v battery banks, switched via relay by the ignition

it also behaves like an alternator as it needs a few rev's to produce a decent current and voltage

I would love to be able to get a copy of EMEI Electrical P 412, if somebody knew of where to get it, that would be greatly appreciated

Elliottt is this part of what you are chasing?  I extracted these images from the Series 3 RPS from Page 391 on.

I’m sure I’ve seen a repair/wiring on it as well somewhere.

I wonder if you could get more information by searching by the Patent Number?

I cleaned up mine like new inside and gave it a coat of Circuit Board Varnish for safe keeping.
