6x6 front door locks
« on: April 14, 2017, 04:29:44 PM »
G'day all, I am after some assistance regarding front door locks for my 6x6. I have purchased new door handles and locks. I have removed the inside door skin but I can't seem to work out how the lock will work. It seems as though I require something else for it to work. I am no doubt over looking something. Any suggestions or assistance would be greatly appreciated.  Cheers Rob

Hi Rob, You also need the lock barrel that goes inside the hole in the handle and a linkage rod to connect it to the lock mechanism. Did you buy the complete setup or just the handle shown. The complete set has 3 key barrels (1 for the ignition) and the linkage rods as well as 2 new handles.
You also have to grind off a small weld on the lock body which stops the button on the inside locking it. Cheers....Brian

Thanks Bearman, I only ordered the two handles I already had the lock barrels.  I managed the ignition no worries.  Ok so I now need to further purchase the linkage rod. I will have to remove the lock body to grind the weld off.  Not really sure how to go about that. I wish I bought the complete set...oh well. Thanks again for your assistance. I have no doubt I will have further questions regarding this.  Cheers Rob.

Rob, Go to www.remlr.com and on the left look down until you see "library" Click on it then up the top click on "parts" then click on "RPS" then scroll down to "02185 -6x6 all variants part 7" page 368 shows the complete lock setup. You can see the rod and clips and the part numbers you need. When you take the door card off you will see the small weld holding the lever that goes to the lock button up top. Have fun.......Brian

To get the latch mechanism out to grind it you need to pretty much strip the door. Window glass out etc.
Some people have been able to grind it in place (try a dremel) to save the messing around. Mine were welded up by a wannabe boilermaker so I had to pull them out. Not a difficult job, just fiddly and time consuming - compounded by the fact my passenger side door was different construction to the drivers side!
Download the repair manual from remlr as it does a pretty good job of explaining the sequence for getting the door apart

Ok, I have checked what parts I require on the reml library rps, and obtained the parts numbers. They are...Rod link #mwc4846. Clip link rod #bha4705. Pin cotter #ps103101. Washer#wa106001l. Nut #nh104041. Adjuster#mwc4850. I have called a few suppliers and it appears that these parts are no longer stocked or are not made anymore. Has anyone had the same problem or know of a supplier that can help?
Also regarding doors the passenger side door won't close properly and keeps spring open when you hit a bump while driving.  I have put a new door closer on which I thought was the problem because the old one was worn but to no avail its still springing open, any thoughts?  Cheers Rob

I ordered the connection rods and clips etc about 6 months ago without issue.... assuming you've pulled the part numbers from the RPS I would try another supplier... I've got all my parts from mr auto in redcliffe without issue

As for the random door opening.... try adjusting the door striker (the bit that rips all the belt loops off all your work pants) a little bit outward - it seems like it's not really adjustable but it is - a fraction of a mm seems to make a big difference.... it did for me anyway

In order to remove the latch i used lockpicking tools but still won't be able to remove it. So i took mobile locksmith help to remove latch.
