If you want to save money use a 12V starter from any Rover V8 and the battery cable from the first battery (12V) and put a 24V relay in the start circuit that provides 12V power to the solenoid.

The reduction starters from the later Disco 1 or 2 and P38 seem to start quicker.

What is wrong with the existing starter?

HH - you haven't indicated what the actual issue is - I assume you are aware that a 12v starter and a 24v starter are the same except for the windings in the motor and the solenoid - I damaged the housing of my 24v starter and put the armature and soleniod into a 12v housing and it works fine.

If the armature is cactus you can get it rewound and if the solenoid is not working they are available.

Dianna's solution will work but I am not sure for how long the batteries will last due to the 24v batteries charge imbalance - no personal experiences and comments online are mixed - some have run 12v from one battery and had no issues and others have killed batteries very quickly.
