A crane truck.
This is the one for you, Scott.

Nah,  life's too busy ATM, ready for a second mid life crisis....................................should I buy a mustang???
How common. Mustangs everywhere.
Why not buy this? It's for sale in Hamilton.

got a link Mick ?? ::)
No.
But I've got a phone number. It was still for sale when I drove past it Sunday night. It's been for sale for some weeks. I reckon he's asking too much for it but it does look very nice.
Send me your email address and I'll send you the photo's. The higher res ones so you can have a good look.

Ravvin, I can't help with any of this but I am jealous. You have the truck and I have the licence. That doesn't help either of us though does it? Best of luck with your new project.
Geoff.

I am fascinated by the 2,4,or 6 wheel drive comment.
Geoff.

The biggest issue I have now is getting my MR license upgraded to HR.

The steel in the deck is really good, but some of the timber needs replacing. Any idea what species would be best? I'll use a good outdoor oil on it, but it will get rained on and baked in the sun. Jarrah would be nice and hard but may be hard to source.
Greg.

Congratulations Greg!  :D

What about driving it a round the paddock a few hundred times until you get the feel for the gearbox and the brakes and then go for the cheapest test option. The brakes are incredibly powerful and just need a toe to operate them; the gearbox must be double de-clutched for every shift. Apart from that, you will pass the test easily as you have an MR. Use low-range and you won't run out of paddock too soon.  :)

Jarrah is not particularly weather proof, or hard and although it grows near me, I wouldn't use it. Ask the local timber workers what they recommend; Huon pine is obvious but I suspect unobtainable. Is there an iron bark or something similar in Tassie?

Ideally the boards need to be out of the sun, or you will end up doing the job twice; it might even be cheaper to protect them with the tarp and replace it when it gets too old.

Looking forward to your restoration posts,

Cheers Charlie

PS If you, or anyone else, needs tail-light bodies made I reckon I could do it.

That is a truck worth saving, glad to see it has gone to a good home, the dent on the roof was done at least three owners ago, from the photo's should be an easy fix. As Charlie said you will not have too much trouble adapting to the truck with your experience of the 4x4's changing up in gears is straight forward dropping down a different thing. As for timber generally any seasoned hardwood will suit, I did my old MK3 tray with re machined secondhand messmate it came out very well.
