This truck has had a few owners over the last several years, last time it was for sale near Bega, hasn't deteriorated much and still looks like a good restorer.

So this should be ARN 180-971 with engine number 6.283.12376.
Notice the plate in the pic has it as Census 6221-B and Date is June 1969.
The REMLR list has it as Census 6221 and Date is 1972.
I'd love to get one of these to use and restore but funds won't stretch that far just now. Always the way. :)

Hi all.
It looks like I might just be able to afford this after all.
I still have to talk to the seller, ask a few questions and see if he will deal, but is there anyone in the Grantville, Vic area or nearby who would be willing to have a look over it if the current owner agrees?
I got seriously caught out on the MK3 I bought by only going off the seller's descriptions and carefully aimed photos.
I'm not after a roadworthy or mechanical report, just want to have someone walk around it and see if anything bad jumps out at them.

I only have a medium rigid licence and have never driven a non-syncro gearbox so even if I flew over I couldn't drive it back on an unregistered vehicle permit, so I'll probably get it taken down to the Searoad depot on a flat tray, if I am lucky enough to get it.

Anyone?  :D

Guess what?

Thanks again to Young Eric for spending his Sunday to go have a look at it for me.
Expecting it to arrive here Wednesday, if things line up.
I'll start a thread on getting it cleaned up and roadworthy.

Greg.

Geoff.

Yes, me too.  ;D
Pretty sure the only way I could get 2 wheel drive would be to drop the rear-most drive shaft.
Apparently he bought it about a year ago and never got time to do anything with it. The previous owner was the one who dinged the passenger side roof and door when the boom got away from him. All fixable.

The biggest issue I have now is getting my MR license upgraded to HR. I can't use this truck as it has to be registered. I can't get it registered as I don't have a license to drive it around to all the places I need to get the work done to get it registered.
Most of the places doing the license tests can supply a truck for the test, but I have only ever driven little trucks with syncro gearboxes so I really need to do the 8hr course with test included. $900 or so. Ah well.
Its usual $250 for the test in your truck or $500 in their's. To do the course is $650 or $900 in their truck.
The silly thing is that down here, the only difference between MR and HR requirements is that you need HR if the truck has 3 axles. Same weight restrictions on MR & HR.

I also got the 3x Dunlop tires he had listed. That gives me 9 spares total, 7 of them at about 80% with the others good enough for spares.
The tread on the tires it's on now look good in pics, but might be too cracked to pass roadworthy. We'll just have to see.

It has the original tail light buckets and lenses in the cab. I know you can still get the lenses but the buckets are getting scarce. The seats all need reupholstering, but I've done that before.

The steel in the deck is really good, but some of the timber needs replacing. Any idea what species would be best? I'll use a good outdoor oil on it, but it will get rained on and baked in the sun. Jarrah would be nice and hard but may be hard to source. Its 5-9/16" by 13/16" and either 14' or 14'6" long. 12 all together, with 2 of those 12 cut into 5 sections each.

Greg.
