Different types of Bonnet mounts
« on: August 18, 2012, 09:04:45 PM »
I was looking today at the spare wheel mount on the Workshop, its the one in the picture below.

And looking in the parts book, its not listed as this type, its listed as this one

So is the one I have the one off the rear door on a station wagon? If so why was it fitted when the other type is the normal fit.

I have also found out that I have the curved edge door seals, these were not standard series 2a fit, and thus must have been in the cross over from 2 to 3..

G'day Juddy  :)

That bonnet and tyre mount is more common on Ambulances, but it could have also been fitted whilst in service, your late 2a would have had the later round tyre pads and the smaller circular tyre mount, with a footman loop riveted in it,(windscreen hold down strap) most of the footman loops and straps were removed and transferred to later vehicles as were the gardening tools.

As for the door seals, the later Series 3 type became the standard type available here in Aust (one size fits all) ;) like lots of minor things that differ to UK spec vehicles, those seals were common to a lot of Leyland Aust vehicles  :)

cheers

As I understand it, the series 2 LWB army land rovers all had this type fitted.  THe series 2 ambulances have them fitted, as did I believe the GS and FFW vehicles.

THe S2 Wrecker at bandiana has that mount for example, as does my S2 ambulance.  Ihave a 2nd bonnet with that mount that I believe came off a GS or FFT, interestingly with the hook mounted in a different place to the 2a.
