Wiles Cooker paint colour
« on: April 19, 2016, 08:39:25 PM »
Does anyone know what was the paint colour for a wiles cooker junior? I think it was the dark green colour of the series land rover but am not sure.

The dark green was used post WW2, but as built in WW2 the Wiles Cookers were painted Khaki Green No3. There is a good thread on the subject (with suppliers) on the Maple Leaf Up Forum (it's fairly long, but it can't be accused of not looking into every aspect!): http://www.mapleleafup.net/forums/showthread.php?t=19995

Wiles Junior (ie the two wheeled) was not an Aust Army WW2 cooker, but introduced post-war. The finish was the deep bronze green gloss of the period, later changed to olive drab in the 1960s.

The WW2 cookers were the four wheeled steam cooker manufactured by Wiles and Boyded.

yes I agree with your timeframes. I am restoring a junior and have two paint colours a dark olive gloss and a later coat of olive drab. This seems to fit with your post. Do you know the colour of the olive or where I can track some down?
