Paint Treatment
« on: February 24, 2016, 11:40:43 AM »
Hi all,

I understand that the best thing for bringing life back into thin and faded paint is Lanolin? Does this take the top surface off the paint? Does it make the surface greasy? And how long does the treatment last?

Thanks in advance,

Tom

No, it doesn't have any effect on the paint surface.  It's like spraying on Mr Sheen.
yes, it does make the body greasy but brings the colours back to life.
Lasts long enough until you get sick of all the dirt and dust it attracts.
Good for a special occasion or posing.  and we all like to do that. ha.

Be careful, though. Although it is great for the paintwork, I found it cracked the TAC stickers.

I recon that's the propellant in the spray can. I used the skirts bottle version and no issues.

If you're asking, there's no need to worry.
As Scott says, it is probably the propellant. Do you have any stickers on your Perentie? If yes, just be careful when using lanolin on them. Maybe a test rub on one of them.

Would there be anything other than Lanoline that could bring a bit of life back? Maybe some sort of spray?

I appreciate your help!

What sort of lanolin are you talking about?
We are talking about a lanolin spray. Scott gets his in a bottle that can be used in a spray pack. I bought some aerosol cans when they were on special.

Oh ok I thought it came in a drum. Does it have to be 100% lanolin? I was just thinking there might be something  else out there that would restore the shine without leaving the surface greasy.

Driving slowly through a mob of sheep will give you 90% lanolin, 5% burrs and 4% sand grit and 1% dag!  :D

If you put it on too thick it will be "greasy" and leave a white smear, put it on lightly and wipe in with a rag it will be fine..

I got mine from Supercheap.
I would assume Auto 1, Bursons, Autobarn, Repco, Bunnings, Home Hardware, Mitre 10 and any farm supplies place would either have it or be able to get it in for you.

What's wrong with vasolene?   It's always worked on paint and gelcoat, for me.  Cheap, quick and easy to apply, then clean off the excess.
Why reinvent the wheel, if there's no need to.
Reckon some here might have a jar in their pocket.

Cheers,  Daryl.

Only issue is its petroleum based and can be a problem sometimes. Lanolin is an old old treatment pre vas!

Cheers.
