Hi BlueBell,

here are a couple of photo`s definitely a different wheel. My knowledge of the Mk3, MK4`s is limited and i did my basic drivers (109) course driving F1`s so I dont have a great knowledge between the types and differences between each model of inter`s the army had.
I've had a look at a few photos and a few of the early trucks have the smoothie wheel fitted. This indicates that it may have been fitted to early ones and the ravages of time have seen a few replaced. The situation is probably similar to the fibreglass mudguards, they were fitted to the first two batches and the third had metal ones. When the f/g guard was damaged it was replaced with the later metal item. Over time the number of trucks with replacements grew and the rebuilt trucks had theirs replaced too. The result is that by the end of their service life only a few trucks had f/g guards fitted. We could probably start a "sticky "thread to detail differences that crept in during production, and whether the change flowed on to trucks already produced. Many people think that all Mk3s were the same but there are differences. The Mk4s had differences even though the numbers produced were much lower, the same thing applies to the 6X6s, some had guttering at the back of the cab some didn't. There were differences in the instruments in the Mk4s of 68 and 71 ( flowed on to F1 & 2 too ) This is info that can be handy to a newcomer who is restoring one of the Inters. Any ideas anyone?

Don't have many photos of my old truck as one can't be in two places at the same time, but I did stumble on these two. The top one was taken about 10 miles further on than the one on the bridge in a previous post.

I dare say during the rebuild the A pillar would have been replaced, but on the off chance that it wasn't have a look on the drivers side about knee height for signs of a patched scar/hole.
It had two holes when I left it, but the one in the left door was self inflicted from an from an AD.

Glen

Impressive.

What is stamped/written in white on the tray dropsides?

The black and white photo shows large damage to the trucks drivers side nose panelwork. Any idea what caused that?

Because the tray configuration was changed pretty close to daily, sides and side seating came off pretty regularly so the vehicle ARN was stencilled on the sides so they didn't get mixed up when stored at the Q store.
In the second shot that is more a trick of the light as in the 12 months I was there the only damage to that truck besides the two aforementioned holes was a slight crease to the roof front above the passengers seat caused by slipping into a tree in the wet season. What may look like damage to the drivers mudguard is in fact the step that was built in to all the fibreglass guards in the initial build. The early Mk3 was so much easier to get in and out of because of this step, but it was discontinued in the later metal guards. Below the bonnet is either wet or in a shadow.
This truck used to have a "commandeered" bra screwed to the dash just above the gauges and this was ideal (because of the padding that most Nog ladies used) to firmly secure a packet of smokes in one side and a zippo lighter in the other, on even the roughest of tracks!
Regards
Glen

Ever since the Razorback trip was mooted I've been following the Inter chat, never been interested in 'em before; but now I find them and the chatter v.interesting, esp' the 4x4s. What a great truck they are! They remind me of the 510A 4x4 I drove when in the CFA (and the 1710A with a split diff). Great trucks!

I think I'd like one but could I afford to run it?

Looking fwd to seeing these beauties on the 12th March  :)

I'm planning on making broom broom sounds while sitting in the cab when my wallet is thin.

Much cheaper to run than a GMC or a Studie.

Athe risk of hijacking the thread (I'll make this my last comment on economy) a Ford Blitz I bumped into in 2013 on the Barrier Hwy heading to Birdsville was carrying 580 lts to get from southern 'burbs of Melbourne  :o.

Just picked up a NOS canopy for the truck. Been in the blokes garage since 1988. Awesome.

Looking good, Pat Toole ( ex north east truck wreckers ) had some some side posts for the tray sides, I don't think he had a full set of 4, it may be worth giving him a call.

Are they a separate item or do they normally come fixed to the troop seat structures on the rear corners?
