contact points and condensor for the 2.6ltr series 3

Hi guys,
I went to put in a new set of points and condensor with a tune up I was doing and the parts are not the standard LR parts.

what dizzy is it running? The guy at the LR parts shop said that it is a bosch type and described it to me clearly, he then said that he had no luck over the years chasing these parts.

id like to keep it as original as possible but I recon the original points is a bit of a stretch.

The Bosch dizzy should be the same as used on many holden and the parts are around I will for the part munbers when I get home or you can go with electronic never needs points or condenser again. I went that way and have not had any problems

I second the Booger's advice - go electronic ignition it makes a world of difference.

Thanks for the info, I have been thinking strongly about the electronic dizzy and will be looking at getting a set before I drive to SA soon.

Hey The Booger,
which holden engine where the dizzys from, red, blue, black or grey?
some points replacements dont fit the grey and as Murphy is my second name I'll most likely choose the wrong one.

Hello Lee,

Just over a year ago I contacted a bloke by the name of David in South Australia who can totally rebuild the ex-Army Bosch distributor for a 2.6 litre Land Rover Series III. Your distributor can be fully overhauled and converted to an electronic ignition.

It was one of those times when money and time did not align. I was just about to get it done when my job and I  unexpectedly parted company and since then other priorities have come to the fore.

David still has a website on eBay and if you contact him he may be able to tell you more. The link runs into full detail about the process that the distributor goes through if you scroll down through the message.

Lee you mentioned that "id like to keep it as original as possible but I recon the original points is a bit of a stretch." While it is expensive you still have a distributor that is based off the Army part.

I did my Series 2A FFT a couple of months back with an Accuspark from Rob Roy Historic Garage. The list at http://robroyhistoricgarage.com.au/parts_spares.html includes Series 3. The kit cost $59 plus post and was a simple install. Works fine.
