Fire Extinguishers 1.5kg Heads Up - $20 special
« on: December 20, 2014, 10:44:48 AM »
Just got back from the crowd at Aldi.

Got 3 extinguishers on special (today only or while they last or whatever), $20 each. This is the 1.5 bottle, not the 700 or 900ml one.
My local Hardware shop had the 1.5kg for $79 full price when I last looked.

https://www.aldi.com.au/en/special-buys/saturday-20-december-2014/saturday-detail-wk-51/ps/p/15kg-dry-chemical-fire-extinguisher/

I put one in the kitchen and also will have one in the Landy. The Perentie bracket is the right width for the 1.5kg but the top of the bottle won't fit under the 90degree bend the bracket has at its top. The bottle is too tall by 10mm. So I suppose its a case of putting the bracket top in a vice and then bending the top straight, then re-bending the top at 90 degrees again, but 10mm further along to be able to fit the Aldi bottle.

I just removed the original bracket and fitted the new bracket that came with the fire extinguiser.

Ok then, try this then.  Got a friend to get me one of these from Aldi.
Same size as the bracket from Army Issue.  Took the standard bracket and bashed out
the top flange with a hammer in the vise as suggested.
Yep, fits in perfectly and the clamp has no problem holding the unit.
Unit doesn't have the recognized brand name but much cheaper.

And, the Unit comes with a hose so you can jam it under the bonnet or mudguard
as required.

Then got some 90mm PVC rainwater pipe.  Glued on base cap and screw on top cap.
Paint over PVC or use camo tape available for rifle stocks so it's un-obtrusive.
I use two of these.  One for steel tent pegs and the other for rolled up straps or
tent ropes so I know where to find them.  Where you mount the brackets is up to you.
Greg Mac.

G'Day Greg. Nice bit of work. Do you mount these tubes in extinguisher brackets?

g'day Dave, the 90mm PVC tube fits perfectly in the red plastic coated bracket that comes with the Aldi unit.  The glue on end cap
fits snugly in the bottom where the base of the Aldi unit goes.
Don't fit as well in the Std Issue bracket.  That's why I fooled around with the Aldi one.

Amazing the little specials that come up in Aldi now and then.  But Carzee saw this one first.

Aah, understood. Thanks. Yep, Aldi can be pretty good. Was going over a list of varied requirements for work the other week and where to source them, the boss goes "Do you realise that you have said Aldi 3 times in the last 5 minutes?" I says" well they get good stuff in at a very good price!" Maybe I should start asking for royalties ;)

Just bought a 1KG dry fire extinguisher today at Autobarn for $23. It fits perfectly into the Series 2A/ Series 3 bulkhead bracket.

Good thing about this extinguisher is you don't have to butcher the original army bracket to make it fit. Originality not compromised and it looks made to order.
