I was checking over my No 5 lunette. I plan on using the trailer this weekend and it will be its first outing other than the Rego inspection last week.
There are 6 hex nylock nuts, 14mm size, and they hold the Lunette onto the drawbar (or is that drawpipe

) using a circle pattern of threaded rod pieces that are welded to the drawpipe. The rod resembles longish wheel studs. I wonder if wheel nuts from a Falcon or similar would do the job.
There is also a grease nipple. Does the grease enable the Lunette to rotate with the rotating pintle hook? Mine may need grease.
I removed the nuts with the help of Inox and had a look inside. The shaft of the Lunette assembly is secured using a large washer and a similar size castellated nut which has a split pin. And thats all there is to see.
So I'm buying new hex nuts today for the refitting and switching to spring washers - or are nylocks used for some very good reason?
