Right hand front fuel tank bracket/mount
« on: October 04, 2015, 04:43:37 PM »
Hey guys,

I discovered something worrying, I think I did find it mentioned in another post somewhere, but cannot find it now.

I recently discovered the right hand fuel tank front bracket on my Perentie had broken completely at all 3 mounts on the front bracket, so the fuel tank has just been resting on the mounts for some time now... we made a replacement bracket that should be many times stronger, the original appears to be a dodgy construction. So just a warning for people to check these brackets out for cracks or other damage...

I think that was my post. I MIGed mine along the crack to fix it, but then mine was nowhere near as bad as yours! That solution is better by far.

One of the FFRs here had a tank change, I took photos of the bracket which appeared to be perfectly good.

We removed the front seat and floor panels and under the firewall section of the floor - ...and there was some surface rust to cleanup and cold gal.

Also we had been warned that a common rust spot was the chassis top under the floor panel where wiring etc holds mud.

Here are a couple of photos. Dervish had cracks in the 3 bolts of the bracket. Are there other spots prone to cracking? If so I will doctor the text on the photo.

We now have a custom tank template here. Would there be a market for a better tank?

Hi all, I also had a cracked fuel tank bracket on my FFR. When I fitted the new 90 fuel tank, I migged the cracked bracket and when I refitted it, I used thicker and larger diameter washers on the 3 bolts. Seems to be holding ok so far.
