« on: March 22, 2015, 12:37:56 PM »

Certainly a bit curious. The tool holder brackets are gone. There is paint on the bonnet and I'm wondering if thats another bit on the tyre.

"GOOGA" or 6006A on the windscreen? If it is a FFT (with the tools mounted behind the seat cushions), why have paint in places on the top of the guards?

Hello Ross

Land Rover is an FFT.

6006A   Truck, Utility, 3/4 Ton, GS, FFR, 12 volt system     L'Rover 109 WB    109 Land Rover FFT / FFR

I posted this image as it puzzled me due to it's 'why' factor. Why has this painting been done. Why paint the entire side rear vision mirror? Why paint the heavily galvanised brush bar? Why paint small spots on the aluminium bonnet and guards and why paint the 'sharks teeth' on the windscreen? Surely there was not a corrosion problem in SVN even though it is regarded as 'the tropical south'.

Can't see any paint on the steel parts such as bonnet hinges which would see 'wear and tear'. Seems very strange to me.

Hi Stuart.

(I'm sure you know this  ;) ) Vung Tau was on the coast and Nui Dat was ~15km inland. I think corrosion may have been an issue just like any coastal region back here. But I agree, actualy seeing anti corrosion treatment such as this is unusual.

Even though it's an FFT, that guard could be a replacement off another vehicle.

Cheers,

Pete

Perhaps these fittings had become worn and shiny. Field expedient repair and the colour bled out quickly or the film picked put the lighter tone and accentuated it?
That or they had seen the tiger stripe cam and went with another big cat- the Cheetah ;)
