« on: August 18, 2015, 07:55:40 PM »
Hi all

I have the  pleasure of visiting Melbourne this Thursday for ten days from sunny Qld. I would like to visit the Military Vehicle Museum and the Light Horse Museum at Pakenham . My question is are still open and does any fellow Melbourne's not what hours they operate.

Many Thanks

Hi John,
last i heard Bernie (the light horse bloke)  was moving the entire collection to beachworth to his suns property, as when he croaks its all going to be left in trust.
I also believe he's burnt a few bridges so nothings coming out of the shed ever again, without a big enough "donation" to coax it out..
what a damn waste.
So many Landy's, None going :(

More bad news. Bandianna and Pucka will still be closed to the public as still at safe base Charlie level.

The Vietnam museum on Philip Island is open though.

Regards.

Damm, are you sure the Bandianna Museum is closed, I Knew the Pucka one was, I was going to visit it in a months time, I thought it was still open with a escort.

Yep pretty sure, you can get on base if escorted by a defence member and they vouch for you and known to you/them, but no one is manning the museum anymore, so it's locked.

Sorry

you could call to double check

Hi Lozza,
If you contact the base administration they will record your details and organise your visit. You'll require the usual photo ID etc.  and they need a week or so's notice. I'll chase up a contact number for you tomorrow.

If you are going east of Melbourne this one is well worth a look. Open Sat, Sun & Mon 1000-1600. It's located 5Km west of Sale on the airport.
