48-216 No logbooks
« on: August 31, 2015, 10:42:54 AM »
Hello all,

I have recently purchased a GS 48-216 at the QLD auction, with Landybitz help this vehicle will be heading on a boat to america. I was able to get from a member here that it served with the RAEME 106 Field Workshop in october of 1993, we were unable to figure out where the 106 Field Workshop was located in 93, i think it was brisbane, but i forgot where i found that info.

Anyone have any pictures, info, or any useful information on the truck when in service?

Or does anyone have any infor on the 106 field workshop in or around 1993? I could find very little info on this unit after the war.

It's all relative my friend, and anyway I am told this truck was the best of the lot. Over the rest of my life, what's an extra $2k buy in? Cheers

106 fld wksp had recently(cant remember the exact year but late 80 early 90)moved from Coopers Plains to Enoggera. You should have a well maintained and well looked after vehicle coming from the largest RAEME unit in SE Qld.I would think it was a stores or senior nco/officers vehicle as the GMV's(the tradies vehicle) had replaced the 2a wksp rovers around 92 when I was posted out of the area.

Remembering that to buy with USD at the moment makes it cheaper: US1.00 - AU1.28

Same with the Pound too.  Not good going the other way mind, and when in 17th months you will have to add 10% on to any order purchased outside of AU, its going to start getting expensive.

From the 106 Fd Wks site ....

"The article ‘below was written by Lt. Zach Lambert, a young RAEME officer serving in 106 Fd Wksp 7 CSSB at Enoggera following the official “resurrection” of the 106 Fd Wksp designation at the beginning of 2013.
106 Field Workshop was re-formed for the first time in the early-1980s at Coopers Plains, and in 1993 moved to Enoggera as part of 6 Brigade Administrative Support Battalion. In Mar 1993, with F88 Austeyr’s issued to the unit for the first time, 106 Field Workshop disbanded for the second time.
Of note, the current Artificer Sergeant Major of 106 Field Workshop was present at that parade. Throughout the period 1993 to today, the 106 designation has been intermittently maintained throughout the tumultuous times surrounding the disbanding of 6 Brigade and the integration of 6 and 7 Brigade Administrative Support Battalion to generate a legacy for the workshop.
It has achieved this, with the 7 Brigade Administrative Support Battalion/7 Combat Service Support Battalion canteen and club being named the Borlace club from 1993.
In line with this, the newly re-raised 106 Field Workshop has tried to continue the legacy of the original unit, utilising the unit motto, mascot and tactical sign in our correspondence and on subunit PT uniforms.
Although now a sub-unit, the newly raised 106 Field Workshop has demonstrated from the beginning in 2013 that it can punch well above its weight, in spite of a manning state far below the standard for a Brigade workshop. 106 Field Workshop was immediately made the Battalion’s main focus with the task of remediating all Brigade equipment to fully functional in preparation for the Brigade readying cycle."

I have no idea of the accuracy of the above, just handing it on for reference and to help build a profile. It will be quite a challenge driving your 110 on US roads! It won't keep up with the traffic on the Interstates (75mph +) and you'll be on the 'wrong' side of the cabin!! But what a blast to have one in such good 'nick': great start point.

Thanks again mike! Very helpful, I was right that they were based in Brisbane then, no wonder it was so hard to find Info on that unit considering they have been disbanded a few times. I'll see what some more google-ing will do when I have more spare time.
It's not so bad up by me, I've done 73 in a perentie here before, so that should be safe enough! The RHD is the fun of the whole thing, never a dull day!

Hi, I was a member of 106 in 1989 when it was based at Coopers Plains, Brisbane (NE corner of Boundary & Orange Grove rd). I reckon this vehicle was one of the new ones we took to Kununurra WA on the Kangaroo 89 exercise. I had dozens of photos but got rid of most of them years ago but will check the ones I scanned onto computer. 106 had 2 Forward Repair Groups based at Enoggera and the whole unit moved there about 92 or 93 but I'd left by then. We didn't have many 110's in 89, mostly series 3's and some 2a's which we'd light hexi stoves in the footwells in winter while driving along to keep warm.
Good to see the old rover will live on.

106 FD Wksp moved into the new Enoggera facilities in 1991.
106 'main element' was at Coopers Plains, and FRG 1 & 2 moved from next door to 5Trucks. I was a baby faced Crafty then  8)
