Hi all,  I'm about to tidy the paintwork on my '89 GS bought last year via the AFM auctions.  I've read the paint guide on this site and purchased the three protec colours recommended.  My concern is that my perentie and most I see displayed on the AFM auction site have four colours: an olive green (same as the protec (camolfage green 342-1166-23) which is the base colour for the whole vehicle which is then oversprayed with the black (protec camo black 342-7165-23) , tan (protec camo brown 342-5265-23) AND another green which isnt olive but more grey green.  It looks to me like my vehicle was factory delivered in olive green (camo green) then camoflaged using the camo black, camo brown AND the different green colour.  I have also noted that some pic's I've seen of camoflaged vehicle DO use the three protec colours only BUT a number seem to have used this different green.  I called protec and they could'nt help with the colour.  Can anyone suggest a colour match I could use for my touch up job or maybe a comment on this? Yes, there is a green that is lighter in shade than the orig olive colour. The orig OG can be seen on the underside of the bonnet or inside the vehicle and sometimes externally in areas where it hasn't been covered by the later coats.

I have no idea which of the two greens is matched by the protec green you have purchased.

Why not just try some to see what shade it is? 

It could be the green colour  currently used externally as the orig OG isn't used.

Sorry Rod, but there is more than one green, as I have 2 greens on my 6x6, the olive drab and a lighter green which is on the bonnet and mudguards. I have wondered if it was due to fading but then I would have expected the tray to have faded also.
I have used some Protec pressure pack as a touch up paint, it matches the tray perfectly but not the cab.

OK got it now, cab is NIRR paint which has faded,,tray is std. paint which doesn't fade

I understand what you are saying, but, I don't think the trays were original fitment to the chassis, at least mine isn't. The GM120 should tell.
Yep, mine appears to have a different shade of green but I do believe that is due to fading. Looking at my other vehicles and trailer, it appears the army used about ten shades of green, or the paint fades.

Mine was Tenixed in 2008 and the body fitted shortly after and then put into storage at Puckapunyal, covering 4700km in the next 6 years. Must have been storage in the sun though because parking lights disintegrated when touched and then there's the paint fade.

As I have stated numerous times there is only one shade of green Federal standard 34088 for the unbelievers amongst us go to http://www.apas.gov.au/SpecList.asp then come back and tell me I am wrong. Different paint types and manufactures products will behave differently and fade differently to each other. And if you are still not convinced take the number stated above to a paint supplier and see what they say, mine told me it was on the Valspa system as camo green ADF as the user.

Pete, mine was mostly at 16AD Regiment. Probably at Woodside I suspect. Then 16ALR. (was that what 16AD became?) Before that it was at AWMA Tech support.
I got it at about 73,000 km. At 33,081km it had a tray swap with 50693 in May 07. At 33,224km it had 350hrs of work done to it in one service! Cumulative service time of 650 hrs. I suspect it was put in the drink at some stage considering the amount of silt that I found in the heaterr core.
Oh it was nearly sent to Timor.

Thanks for the comments chaps.  Very helpful.

I think I'll try and use some lanolin on the green to restore the colour.  However, patch painting rusted or chipped areas is going to be tricky if I have to spray fresh green over faded green....

donot rely on speedo as most of the vehicles have had halflife upgrade

Thanks so much for the green Federal standard number, this means I can actually get the correct paint in the US. Do you happen to know the US Federal Standard Paint code for the Black and Tan and Pilibara Red in Perentie AusCam?
