Hi,

Tommy I see you've been to "the paddock" whilst it could be seen as a shame they are out in the weather, at least they are original condition and great reference vehicles.

Cheers

I haven't been there Scott. I took the photos off the internet (Flickr).

Whats the story behind them. Is the owner interested in preserving these vehicles or does he not care that they are deteriorating :(. Surely someone on this forum could convince him into selling to a collector. It won't be long before the Kombi reverts back to iron ore as they are notorious for rusting out in quick time. I'm sure Korg will jump at the chance of acquiring the camo Landy.

Hi Tommy,

Yes I know the person very well, and on a public forum it's important to keep details private.

He is known to quite a few on here and the topic gets discussed fairly regularly, he is very clear in that he is a collector and not a restorer and just likes having them - they are exactly as they came out of service (except very weathered) and great references and he likes to talk about them - once he gets to know you.

And No they will never be for sale, trust me many people have asked and still ask.

Cheers
Scott

It's a shame they will rot away and then be no longer of any use to anyone, but there his so he can do what he likes with them, of course letting them rot away is madness.

Remindes me of my uncle alillte, he's got fields full of old trucks, plant, cars and tractors, scammells just sitting there, roadless tractors bamford mine trucks, even cars, he will never restore them all, he's just a horder of what will soon become worthless junk.

I'v known about these Landrovers since the early eighties. I have driven past them many times. (You know there is a 101 nearby on another property.)
I've met the fellow. He is a friendly fellow who loves to chat about his treasures with a passion.
He has invited me down to take more photographs which I may do sometime. In fact, I'm overdue for a visit. I haven't told him about the Inter yet.
I think he has one of those squirrelled away somewhere.

Although they are in the weather, I respect they are his and he can do what he wants with them.
It's not a good idea to publish where they are. I think there has been a theft or two so it's probably not in everybody's best interests to advertise.

...
We can't save them all, and when one dies, the rest become that little bit more rare and ever so slightly more valuable.
Yes.
That's why gunbuggies are as common as muck but a widelight SIIA workshop is so desirable.
(Don't even mention 101's. They're all over the place. Some people even use them as garden ornaments.)

I think that Eric Pic is on speaking terms with the man as well.

I do not have any chassis numbers for any of the vehicles however, so should anybody have a chance to take some snaps, could they get chassis, or at least data plates please?  That goes for anything in there (and I know there is a bit).  I wouldn't identify where they are, as I too have known of the place for some time, although i've no idea precisely where as I don't need to know, just admire the photos.  Maybe something about in collection, reported by member x?  Dunno.  Anyway, good reference photos at the least!

Good one Tommy.

This is what I think it will take:
Buy a property with a big shed. I've found one suitable. $330,000 plus GST.
Put a caretakers residence on it. You can get ones suitable from a shed builder. Probably $100,000.
Then invite the fellow to look after your shed and he can put his treasures in it. I reckon he might take the offer with a little convincing from one or two people.
Any offers in coughing up the dosh? I'm working towards it.

I can take the photo's. He has invited me to do this.
I just need the motivation.
