Having a lazy saturday afternoon and decided to use my mouse sander to see if I could raise a few low points and lower a few high point on the rear quarter panel. it worked a treat and I was surprised at how many different shades of OD were underneath. If you look carefully, I counted four. Nothing earth shattering about that but quite distinct shades.
I've given the wife a headache with the noise of the sander so I'd better go and find something quiet to do now.

I think one of them (around the outside of the photo) is a pale green primer. There appeared to be a minor panel repair with a smear of body filler which I have sanded out.
Surprised at the variations in colour though.

Hi Wade, you have given me some much needed inspiration. Attended Foster show yesterday with 112-915 for the RSL stand. Took GOPHER back to the workshop and muttered as I went past LR's in various stages of semi reconstruction.
Going down to workshop now to get dimensions for manufacture of new rear X members.

Thanks Gents
The encouragement I receive from everyone is a real buzz, considering most of you are on the East Coast.
I admit I will never be in the same league as Dennis and the rest of you all,who are doing miraculous things with
series Land Rovers.
I'm hoping to have it on the road before Christmas this year but the best laid plans of mice and men etc etc.
My next job will be finishing and painting the bulk head so I can complete the wiring, brake and clutch masters and finally the body work.
I watch with interest at all your posts, gleaning all the information I can to help me complete my project.
Thank you again and lets all keep up the excellent standards of restoration we are doing  and return these pieces of Australian Military history back to the roads where they belong.

Been keeping busy doing little jobs whilst waiting for the right time (No wife and kids around) to paint the Bulkhead.
Opportunity finally arose this week and I set out into the great unknown, not ever having painted anything with a spray gun before, and gave it a good first coat. Weather has good and having mixed my Protec Green into a mixing pot 50-50 with thinners I fired up my little HVLP gravity gun and I'm very pleased with the outcome. I only have a little cheap GMC compressor but the little spray gun hardly had it working. Worked on a pressure of 30 psi and it sprayed beautifully. No Runs, all good.
Recently I found a place that would sell Camo green in spray cans but was very disappointed to find that all five cans that I purchased wouldn't spray. Blocked up and I couldn't get more than a couple of seconds out of any of them before they clagged up. So hopefully I can get a refund on them.
Now that I have 'mastered' the little spray gun. I will use that in future. Piece of cake.

Nice work, looks like the same compressor of a mates I used to spray my whole series 3!!

It is such a forgiving paint to spray on!

Thanks Richard
On air hungry tools it runs out of puff quickly but then recovers well. Its ideal for this spray gun though.
I will be painting the 2A with it and yes, The Protec Green is a very forgiving paint to use.

Now that the Bulkhead is painted, I find a new enthusiasm to get back into it. I can see the 'bits bin' of removed parts slowly getting smaller as they get refurbished and put back on.
Below is just a quick photo of the ID plates all mounted up so she not only has a name now but her ID back as well.

I have had some productive time working on the 2A lately, probably not as productive as I would like but good nonetheless.
Hand throttle and steering column are painted and back on but neither connected.
I have  been pondering the carby setup. Having replaced the BMC diesel that was in there, I found some of the throttle linkages missing. As I have fitted a new Weber Carby to the 2.25 but if you know the Weber, you know the linkages are all arse about face. I decided to turn the Carby through 180 degrees. The choke cable now sits nicely as you can see and its now a matter of fabricating a linkage setup. The fuel line will be further from the radiator running aroud the back of the motor so I am hoping this will help keep the fuel cooler so it doesn't vaporise in Perths hot climate. I also plan to cover the fuel line in insulating tube to assist in its cooling. Bit like the stuff they use on fridges.
This is all new to me but it appears pretty straight forward.
If anyone can see any glaring problems with what I propose, I am open to suggestions.

A Dilemma...

Fitting prop shafts the other day, rear went on no problems but front one came up short. I know it hasn't shrunk in the wash or anything but the only way I can get it to fit was undoing the retaining ring. Only thing I can think of is the springs are set too high. Could the springs be on back to front, does this matter? If you look at the angle at the diff end its quite acute. If anyone out there in REMLR land can give some suggestions or remedies I would be most grateful. Also every drain plug on the blessed machine is already leaking. Is plumbers thread tape a viable proposition for stopping the leaks?

Is the engine in the chassis Wade? I couldn't fit my 80" one until the motor went in.

Thread tape sucks! Clean the plug in degreaser and use something liquid such as Loctite master pipe sealant,
