Yep. Standard fitting for the No. 5 Trailer . including the Workshop.
It's missing the large locking washer which prevents the lunette from rotating.
If you can't find one get someone to put a spot of weld on the shaft to lock it.
And don't forget the split pin after the nut.

Why lock it? I went to great trouble to get mine apart and unlock it.

Ok then, don't lock it.  But if it rotates then make sure
the Pintle Hook on the vehicle doesn't rotate.  (safety issue)

I'm still chasing the special locking washer for a new Lunette I scored.
Still got the one you took off  maybe. ???

So, do you want to sell your locking washer? There are two potential buyers in this thread.

No thanks. I rotated it to the unlocked position but wish to retain it in case there is ever  need to change it back.

I am wondering what the safety issue is? I am under the impression that having both vehicle and trailer locked is dangerous but either or both unlocked is fine. I recall an earlier post that the army locked them as poor maintenance (lubrication) was creating wear problems.

The big issue with rotating pintle hooks is when diggers climb in the back and the pintle turns under their foot lots of ankle injuries :)

Also both unlocked has the potential to lock together when turning and can jack knife lock and cause roll over especially breaking hard into a corner.
Lots...............

Having towed my Track trailer for quite a few hundred kilometres with both pintle and lunette rotating, I heard quite a few banging noises from the coupling (an indication of locking). I can appreciate why there may be a problem.

Interesting. My RAAF Track doesn't rotate, well it does move just a few degrees each side of centre, and a couple of weeks back took it up to Chilli Beach near Lockhart River (800km each way) behind the Defender with a non-rotating pintle without problems.

Well no problems caused by the coupling. Hit a washout pretty hard and both brakes totally locked up - piston on each had popped! Took us two and a half hours in the middle of nowhere to get it running again. Still have to fix them...

In 1971 the standard was that the hook on the Landrover was set to rotate through 360 degrees when off road. The no.5 was limited to about 30 degrees either side of level. We didn't normally have any problems including on the rather questionable roads in the Western Districts of PNG. However one of our drivers (No, not me) managed to roll a no 5 whilst keeping the Lándrover upright. We went out to help him right it and I was heartbroken because my camera was back at camp. Mind you the same driver managed to a "Wall of death" stunt in a cutting. We didn't believe him until we went and looked at the tyre marks. It would have been good to observe from a safe distance especially as there was a 10kva generator in the back at the time....
We didn't need to go to Vietnam. We were quite capable of doing ourselves an injury without outside help.
Memories.
Geoff.

You probably have an anti rotation plate on it.
I have two RAAF Track Tactical trailers. One with an anti rotation plate. That only rotates a degree or two either side. The other appears to have not been used in service. That one looks original as supplied from Track. It does not have an anti rotation plate.
