The tassie frosts have finally killed my batt, but mine was fitted with a cheap after market dual battery system this is long gone now. So what is closest available to original.

I am looking around at dual batteries as well. I don't know what the original FFR used.

I don't want to run a 24v aux battery setup. Heavy.

I want to run dual batteries using a Red Arc smart switch which I purchased last week for just over $110.

My current starter battery is ok for now (4yrs old) but could I rely on it outback?
Probably better to renew it.

I want extra or backup 12v capacity:
-failsafe for engine starting
-ARB air compressor
-driving lights and other accessories

Saturday I looked at a brand in the N70 size (mf - sealed) for $220 which had cold crank of 760 I think. It is for 4wd use, specially built to handle corrugations/vibration very well; the plates don't fail as they have a X (cross) style plate mount "which is stronger" according to the blurb. I also looked at $380 gel batteries for a deep cycle as the backup. They are said to be good for 7yrs. They said. Hmm.

I will be checking out more batteries at R & J this week.

I'll be doing a dual battery setup for the electric winch I'll eventually get. I will be using a traxide usi-160 and two optimas plus a gwyn lewis tray.

Otherwise a 650cca N70 should suffice as that is what is in mine currently.

I checked in the RPS for the Perenties and they don't specify the actual starting batteries. All are listed as NSS, maybe No Special Sort?
The batteries for the radios are listed as Part Number AYG9827, descr Battery - Radio, and NSN 6140-66-128-4762.
Remember Deep Cycle batteries are good for long, gentle use. They won't live long if you pull large amounts of current from them, as winch or starting batteries.

I have fitted Caterpillar Batteries in my 6x6. https://parts.cat.com/en/catcorp/search/premium-high-output

I used a 175-4370 as the main 12v start battery and 2 175-4360 for the 24v FFR system, although I could have used either part number for all 3 to simplify things.

As Perentie puchasers would be aware, the vehicles come from the auctions with a size 86 batteries which are slightly longer than a N70. While available, the size 86 seems to be a rarer item and thus more expen$ive.

N70 batteries go well as replacements but the dual battery hold-down bracket in the FFRs and RFSVs no longer fits.

In the RFSV dual battery system I have installed a pair of Caterpillar 175-4390 batteries which do fit under the issue battery hold-down with a bit of packing. These are a 90ah 1000CCA battery with a 5 year pro-rata replacement warranty.

Just another option that may be of assistance when the time comes to look for replacement batteries

Mine had a N70 in it.
I couldn't find a N70 on the shelf but the local farm supplies had a N86 sitting there, cheap, so I bought that. I was worried it might not fit, but it did.
