When is an FFR not an FFR ?
« on: July 17, 2015, 09:59:30 PM »
When it's a GS  :)

I found the attached pic of Series 2A 112-932 on the net. Going by the tail gate it looks to be a GS and REMLR's ARN database records it as a GS as well.

Yet it is kitted out with more radio gear than most FFR's (or FFT/FFW).  Apparently the radio is a VRC-103A and the teletype is a kleinschmidt (sp?).

Anyways, for a GS I think it looks cool :)

Cheers.

Deluxe.

Its got everything in it except a coffee machine.
including a teletype. Is it a sort of signals command post perhaps.

Up until recently we called them a Covered Radio And TeleType (CRATT) Detachment. I use to have a troop of them a long time ago  :o

In the 80s & early 90s we used the AN/VRC 106 HF radio and UGC-74 teletype. Then we went to the RAVEN RT-F100 with amplifier and UGC-74. Currently we use a new capability... but I don't talk about current stuff  ;)

Cheers.

Way back when I was in the green, a vehicle fitted up like that was called an FFT whereas the more common vehicle that was fitted for Radio, strangely, was called an FFR. The scoop was later fitted to both.
