Whats going on with prices
« on: July 26, 2012, 01:04:49 PM »
Has the price of ex Army Land Rovers all of a sudden just gone up 10 fold,  this ones already at 4k.  Now this really cant be relative can it, I know its what someones prepared to pay, but it makes some sold by members on here not too long ago amazing bargains, This ones still needs a fair amount of money invested in it, Add another 5k....

Rarity is what is going on I'd say. Those that have them and love them won't part with them easily....so that leaves less to be found cheap :D

Haven't you noticed that the price in series land rovers in general seems to have taken a massive leap lately  ;)

The prices of Series 2/3 land rovers, world wide have gone up ten fold over the last few years, its just the same as years ago when the series 1's went up in price, the series 2/3 are now in the collectors segment.

The days of the land rover being a cheap run about are few and far between, If we have the likes of the Workshop on ebay selling for 4k or more then a mint condition fully restored one in my opinion should be worth 8/10k maybe more if its some thing special.  Supply and demand, theres far less going around, and those of us who have one or ten, will have a small gold mine in a few years.

The same goes for parts, as we know alot of the parts are no longer made, and as such old stock is getting very hard to find on some items, and when found the prices are very high.

Watch out the series 3 will be next in line, and in a few years early 90/110's.

No reason why Land Rovers should be any different to other collectable cars of the same vintage  ;) And look at the prices some of those are fetching  ;D

Seems to me a few people want Workshops.
Vixen is right, there is rarity value there. You got a good buy with yours there Juddy. I know a few people that were interested when they saw it. Even I was saying "That ain't coming off my trailer".
Generally speaking though, car prices are falling. Even classic ones. What will remain high are the cars people desire.
So, everybody, get your ex-military vehicles out there. Get them seen and desired. Keep the interest up and the value up.

If this is what workshops are going for then I did get mine at a good price, of course I have spent more on it so far than what I paid for it. Working on the rise in prices, should be worth 20k when it's done. ;D

I think as you said Mick there seems to be more interest in ex military land rovers now, and a lot by people who have never owned one before.

If it is on epay, consider that bids can be non arms length, that may very often be why items get relisted as a non paying bidder. Vendors can get their mates and wives to bid. Always look at bidding history and view bidders with limited history suspiciously. Bidders can also be scammers. Caveat Emptor. Cannot say what has happened here, maybe a member has bought it and it was an exceptionally good vehicle but please view epay prices suspiciously as often the buyer may not settle. Be careful.

Well what a coincidence. Yesterday afternoon as i was making my way up the mountains to Oberon i spotted this workshop on the back of a trailer on its way to Sydney. It actually looked reasonably good. So it looks like it was a genuine sale and the buyer must have been keen to get it home. I didnt even notice what 4wd it was that was towing it as i was to busy looking at the workshop on the back lol..

It appeared quite complete, but must be a bit of a record for what is ostensibly a resto project. With so many series Land Rovers being made, many of us felt that prices would never go up, but the fact is that series Land Rovers are getting hard to find. Further, whereas 50 years ago we only operated one, now many of us enthusiasts have 5, or 10 or maybe 20.

If its, saved, restored, used then that's a good thing better than rusting away.

Maybe not Dragon.

We have all learnt from Shonky (and his ambulance 'Ambrose') that, what may look like a full restoration job may simply require a cosmetic overhaul. Maybe this workshop will receive the same treatment. If so, $3950 is a bargain.

Yes well it does say "suit restorer". i guess every person has a different idea of what encompasses restoration. My experience with historic racing cars, is that they can be destroyed in restoration in the wrong hands, so I prefer to preserve originality. None the less, new soft tops, brakes overhaul, probably a rewire to some level, obtain missing parts, thousands of dollars soon disappear, even if no rust repair or painting needed. Remember 46 year old car outside from 1966 so very unusual if no resto needed. What is the value of your time? Probably not zero? So what is an excellent example worth? Surely must be over $10k, but we rarely see those prices paid unfortunately.
