Feul Consumption perentie RFSV

I have recently purchased a RFSV Perentie- Hwy tested at 100/110 km &  @ 80/95 km . Fuel consumption 19 per hundred both tests.

Mechanical problem or just driving too fast?

Whats the diff ratio on the RSFV's?

Diff ratio is 3.54, same as other Perentie 4X4's but the RFSV has a lower transfer ratio for cross country 1.113 instead of 0.996. You can change the 2 gears over pretty easily for highway use. The gears you need are FRC9392 and FRC4032.

Your fuel consumption is double what I get, you are not going to fast at 100/110. How is the power/performance of the engine? How long have you had the vehicle? Have you serviced her after you received her? DO NOT believe the log books that came with your vehicle, I would service her regardless. Air filter is very important.

My 6by gets 19-20lt/100k's and it weighs 5 tonne with 4.7 diffs so I would think something as far as fuel consumption requires looking at

Checked/replaced both air filters..?
Were the injectors replaced at 200K..?

Veh weight, tyre pressures, kinked air inlet..?

Canopy down/ sides up/ back down/ windows open/ etc..?

what tyre pressure? door says 40 front & 58 rear? seems high? I ran at 35 & 38 all round.

I'll add to Bearman and sixty by saying that the RFSV is probably +20% cross sectional area due to the extra canopy height, ride height, side baskets and protruding rear Tyre carriers.also remember that you are starting with an additional 200 kgs of bars, seat and storage.
20lt/100k was what I used as planning range.
A taught canopy is crucial to creating effective airflow around the vehicle. Yep, we are discussing aerodynamics and land rovers

Tyre pressures are a bit low, but not enough for your concern, try 46Psi all round that is what
I run and she is good for me.
Even with all the protrusions, flapping canopy I don't think a 10/100km difference from mine is not justified.
My canopy is not tight,  it was fitted in 2008 and flaps everywhere, tools on the bonnet, windows open,flaps open, vents open and constant 10L/100km that is open road or town driving, my Perentie is my only transport, work, church and play.
The only time she goes over is 2-300km low range and mountain/sand driving but even then she gives 14L/100km. Maybe I am just lucky

Rangy...is yours an RFSV..?

The super heavy duty split rims and brick-like Goodyear Hi-Miler cross plys tyres will drag the @rse out of the fuel economy, compared to AYG8108 rims and Steeltrek/Michelins.

Also, the Hi-Milers are larger diameter than most 750x16s.....check your distance travelled etc.

No its a GS, plain jane.
If the tyres are larger than mine in circumfrance maybe the calculations is wrong? You know the distance then actually traveled is more than what the speedo is measuring.............maybe that is my problem, Mmmm I will make sure things are spot on when I do my electronic speedo (Td5) conversion.

I would get around 400k from one tank, highway driving around 100/110 so the speedo says.

I recently took the spare wheel carrier, ROPS, tyres, rear seat and  side bins etc off a RFSV and it went like a rocket, the upgrade ROPS most be 100KG++ the seat frame another 20kg, plus theres all those stupid ammo boxes gets, reinforcing plates, etc

serviced & filters ect changed- no difference.  I will try other suggestions. tyres, weight canopy etc.

Leaky tanks are common, checked for that?
Diesel theft from tank?
