Workshop Trailer Number 24
« on: March 11, 2015, 05:22:04 PM »
A few questions regarding this trailer.

Its got a delivery date of  2/62 is this a very early trailer?

What type was it?

Its got some clamp fitting under the guards, what was this for?

What regiment used it?

And what shocks will fit it?

Will be interesting to find out little more about it

Cheers

JB

That could be 1 of 2 Wksp trailers(that I know of)made in 62.Prototypes???.Arn 101-389 Platform Machinery.ARN 101-390 Electronic repair shop. Its painted OD(not DBG of that era).Scratch some paint of both the chassis and platform to find origional paint colour.A chassis number would help.I found my platform(1971) was placed on an earlier chassis(no 5).Go through trailer ARNs on the home page.Lots of info there and lots missing that hopefully will be added.Anything you discover please pass on the info as Im trying to update Wksp vehicle/trailer info.Cheers Hallsy.

You are correct in what you say about the paint its the old Bronze green under the new paint.  Where would I find the chassis number/ARN?

It can vary depending on many things.I found my chassis no under the platform,on the chassis parts on the passengers side front crossmember. In trying to find the elusive number,I started stripping the paint off to find DBG under the bump stops and other areas not totally preped.Found #61 which lead my research to a 1971 platform on a chassis of 102-066,hence coming up with its ARN 178-025.Simple.......no way.

Some workshops have their platform number, not chassis number listed on the ARN lists, but alas no workshop trailers show up withthat chassis number in the listings.  2x No.5 trailers though, one built in 1963.

Interstingly,101-389 and -390 built in 1962 has no chassis nymber listed for it.   Not until 101-393 does a chassis number (No. 1) appear) and they are listed as 1964 builds.  So if the date is correct, potentially one of those two platform trailers is your one.  Unless the platform was moved off a workshop truck that is.

Platform numbers have no connection to ARN(Im trying to corralate more info to update records, which isnt an easy task). That said one of my trailers that is registered(in SA) has the platform number as the  chassis number. One of the local police persons who did the inspection,as it was an interstate change over, decided that it was easier this way as the young lass doing the computer stuff couldnt enter 2 digits into a system that needs 13.I loved his comments that it was made before your parents were and if it was regod in QLD it will be regod here.I hope that I get the same guy when I try to register the WKSP rover.178025 will go past the same police station behind my perentie on our local ANZAC Day parade on the 18th apr.

Mostly that is true, however some of the arn books note the platform number specifically instead of the chassis number. Some here for example http://www.remlr.com/ARN/ARNs_trailer_108.php
