Well, here goes. A condensed version of my thread from AULRO.
Nothing you haven't seen before, just some stocking stuffer material to kick off the new forum.

The story basically starts with me taking an alternative route home one night after work, which lead me past the local scrapyard.
Way out the back of the yard I see the distinctive shape of a series Land Rover, so the following day I pay them a visit.

This is what I found:













She was somewhat complete, but had a hard life on a horse stud towing floats, and seemed to double as a shooters rig.

After a bit of a runaround with registration (incorrect engine number on record) I finally scored some help with a local copper, who pointed me in "the right direction" -nudge nudge - wink wink.
Next I made the necessary arrangements, to get it registered in my name, and then delivered home.

The death stare I got from SWMBO was priceless, so the next step was to give the old girl a basic cleanup.

There were bucket seats tek screwed in, the passenger seat held in by 1 screw and even fitted with a baby seat.....
A couple of 20L buckets of mud, muck and other inidentifiable "stuff" were washed out.
The series 1 cab was removed, to give it a more "natural" look.







In the end, SWMBO admitted that it didn't look so bad after all.

A quick look at the wiring revealed a real birds nest of various "upgrades" made by the previous owner.
It was decided that I'd strip it down to the chassis, Wire wheel and black it, put in a new harness, and replace the Holden 173 with a proper 2.25 Rover motor.

The following months were spent sourcing missing parts..... like odd tool brackets, badges, panels (etc).
Finally some time was spent cleaning up the tub somewhat, and giving a spray of the good old OD.





Followed by a patch-up on the radiator support panel.

The months rolled by.......

We put up a new shed, which gave me a dry spot to do some work.
Next came the firewall and front guards.

She's still a pig, but is strting to look a little more respectable.





The tops of the guards were hideous, where years of corrosion, coupled with multiple layers of paint, followed by the removal of the tool brackets, had left what looked like the Grand Canyon.

Thank goodness for spray putty.  After about 6 heavy applications, with moderate sanding in between, the canyon slowly filled.

Well, It now looks respectable.............. from the front.



99.99% electrics up and working.
Engine is running, after replacing the head gasket, and a crack repair to the head.
Clutch lines are fitted, and seem to be working.
Brakes still need attention.
Some panels still need attention. (smoothing and painting)

well done!   A big change from its original appearance!

It had a working name of Crusher, is that still the case or have you decided on another name


(By the way I think the way you set the title up is probably the best way to set these up:-
ARN, YEAR MODEL SIZE AND DESIGNATION THEN NAME,
that way we can easily access them and maybe in the ARNs an option to have a link to threads about specific cars could be added later? (much later! )

Quite a few years ago at a rough guess  & then he seemed to turn into a Chook.

The spray putty seems a good idea, Would it have been has cheap to take the wings off for blasting, and less time consuming???

I take it the spray put is a spray on filler product???

Spray or brush. Just put it on THICK, let it dry properly, and then sand it back. (using a block - otherwise your finger press into the depressions and you end up digging out the putty you just put in.)
Rinse and repeat till the holes are filled.

Blasting would be good too, but may reveal nicks, scrapes and holes that will need filling anyhow.

A few years ago, we were visiting my B.I.L. in the Riverland who was working as a signwriter at the time. He took us around to a workshop where they were building hot-rods and other custom resto's. It seems that spray putty was the main weapon of choice.

Used to be all bog, but now spray putty has taken over.

Ohh now it makes sense!!,
I couldn't work out why the Motor Accident Commission had an ad with the motto "dont drive like a chicken!!"     seemed silly!
