Tim,

The books that I have show the paint to be British Paints Signal Red BS537 BS381, NSN 8010-66-072-6868.

I think this converts to an Aussie code of R13, if you go to an automotive paint shop and ask for R13 see what happens.

I looked into the colour for my Fire Trucks and it was a while ago and I can't remember if this code is correct, I will check tomorrow.

Hi Tim,

Both of mine have black as the original colour with red being the overspayed colour. I also have a couple of original production pictures in colour that clearly show black chassis.

I am going to do mine black when I start the restorations.

Where would you find the paint code Peter? Somewhere on the vehicle?

I have a copy of the specifications book and it list everything, from who had what contact to produce certain parts through to a complete CES list and where is was stored on the vehicle. It make things really easy.

Tim,

Did you get a copy of the User Handbook or the Specifications booklet?. The Specification booklet is the way the vehicles were made listing the contracts for each component. The CES lists the manufacturers of each item.

Attached is the cover of the specs book.
