28V alternator idler adjuster mechanism.
« on: February 13, 2015, 09:32:36 PM »
Today I removed the idler/adjuster from 48-852 to manufacture a second one to fit to 49-353's engine (I can't see the sense spending almost $2K to buy an original bracket without the pulley assembly when making a bracket will likely cost around a hundred even if I have it plated like the original).  Unfortunately I don't have the RPS for the FFR variant.

Can someone check their RPS for a few parts?
  • the manufacturer and part number of the original twin pulley and bearing?
  • The diameter/thread and length of the two long bolts that hold the 28V alternator to the mount?

If anyone else is looking for the same assembly to activate the 28V system, we could probably make a second.

Diana, the RPS for the FFR states that the manufacturers code for the pulley is Z0096 and the part number is AYG0403. The bearing is readily obtainable, Here's 2 numbers, NTN 63203LLU/2AS and Torrington W203PP. The 2 bolts that hold the 28V alternator to the mount are 12X160MM, thread is metric but unknown what pitch - really doesn't matter.

Thanks, I have an alternator that I want to fit on to 48-852 for Corowa (missing at auction) and thought it would be the time to template the bracket for 49-353 at the same time.  :)

Off to the bolt shop tomorrow morning.

I just rechecked the RPS and that is the correct part number Juddy. Unless it has been superseded since my manual was printed. Item 3 on the attached page.

I showed cookey the bracket today and asked if he thought we could replicate it, the answer came back yes!  :)

Went off and removed the tow receiver off a civvy 110 and then did some work preparing an ex-Army pick head for painting.  When I came back Gary had some work in his vice he was welding up.  When the arc stopped, in the vice was a new bracket!   :)  :)  :)

I took a look at your piccies and the failure and thought we could fabricate a more reliable one that would pick up the timing cover bracket.  I think even $500 was too much for what the brackets are.

He was selling the idler/belt adjuster pulley complete, the CAV generator (tested), the CAV engine mount, the FFR 12 volt Alternator mount, the complete loom from Cav pug to distribution box and the loom for the battery bank with the Distribution box also included. For $500/Neg. is that not a fair price?

Anyways I had my 12 volt alternator’s bolt eye welded and the thing magnafluxed then Easyout the two side bolts now all’s good.

Thanks Phil

But I don't need all of that.  The last 28V Perentie alternator I bought cost $50 for the alternator wiring and distribution box, now I have 3 sets of wiring and dist boxes 2 sets more than I need.  All I needed is the two brackets, and the double pulley on its pivot.
