Brush Bar

Why would the brush bar on this GS be wider than a standard bar that is leaning up against it? All the uprights are in the same place just the two outside ones are approx 90mm wider total width 180mm (approx 7") wider??

It is as it was when came out of army no civilian adjustments and no obvious cut and welds.

Any ideas?

No holes in the side for pipe rail so might not be off a Topo survery (but this does make sense)

It's not LRPV Scott.

The top flat bar on the wider brush bar looks to be thicker. Is this correct? If so, the thicker bar appears to terminate at the inner LH side (RH side looking at image) upright post. Some posts also appear to be of a thicker gauge.

Original brush bars were heavily galvanised but I can see quite a lot of surface rust. You can usually tell when a bar has been modified as the galvanising would have been disturbed by welding/grinding. Check to see where the rust patches are as this will give you some clues to work with.

The lower bumper attachment bolt holes appear differently positioned as well.

I'll have another closer look tonight. I only got this vehicle as a parts vehicle on the weekend so haven't looked too close yet. What I was told was that it came out of the army like this and has not been changed.

So the bar on the ground is definately original and standard (although the inside corners cut out to fit SUE winch - done in service) it is heavily galvanised and does look thinner steel than the wide one.

The wide one is rusted, I'll have to check if there's any gal, I'll have a real close look for weld joins, and the bolt holes are in different places.

So it is an odd one and hard to work out.

Will look tonight and add anymore info.

I believe that these bars were also available as a vciian option at the time as well, perhaps they differed?

Hang on, landcruiser used a VERY similar bar perhaps that is where it is from ??

Nice one Richard !!  Measurements should confirm, but for the time being.....   I think there is a collective doh!! why didn't I think of that

Thats what I first thought until I had a closer look at both types. The LandCruiser bar is taller and does not have the tapered outer post. There are many more differences.

Yes, the outside of the LC bar tapers back towards the vehicle.  So maybe not.  Could have been from an early batch of LC's though, and the design changed.  or it could have been an apprectice that got the measurements wrong!
