AUSTRALIAN ARMY BOOK 140 (AAB140)
« on: July 10, 2012, 09:07:12 PM »

The AAB140 sounds a bit like a model and series of an International truck, but it refers to an army book no140, Record book for service equipment which replaced the older version AAB147 in 1977 which was a brown covered book. This book also was used for a lot of other equipment eg battery chargers, field stoves, generators, movie projectors the list is endless
The hand written details on the cover of this one is prim example as to how a transport supervisor would mark them for his office filling system, as for the internal input details this book is not a good example
Very few of these books ever went with the vehicles when sold and I think that by now all would have been destroyed. It’s a shame as this was the only true record of the vehicle history, from its date into service to date of sale, showing where it had been basically eg, what units it had been in and for how long what had been replaced / repaired and by who etc.
The book was always kept in the transport office and only went with the vehicle when it went to workshops for any reason or on a long distance task .
I hope this my give some a better idea as to how the vehicles were managed during there service life.
I have photocopy the book into a PDF file format but this program will not allow me to up load

Hi hodgo,
The New Zealand Army has the same thing for their vehicles.
We were lucky enough to get the book with our Unimog. It show's lots of little bits, the different work shops it went to, had a new gear box at 35 000 Km's etc.
It had 41 000 on it when we bought it.
I will have to scanne & put some pages up later.
