I recently installed power steering but it doesn't work all the time, you seem to have to turn it to full lock to get it to load up the pump to get it to work. Any ideas?

As BadCo says I think you have air in the steering box, there is a blled nipple on top, turn full lock one way then the other then open the bleed nipple (with engine still running) it will froth out until just fluid out, the close nipple, repeat process. This should bleed the system properly

try that and see how you go

cheers
Scott

I have done the same, what box did you use? If you used a discovery 1 steering box how did you get around the goose neck drop arm problem where it connects onto the criss rod?

What do you mean? The Disco 1 box just bolts straight up, busy doing a conversion now.

They have different drop arms. The defender one has a goose neck/dog leg and the disco one is straight-ish

Don't you just use your old arm on the new box?

I dunno, I haven't started doing it yet. Just have all the pieces on the garage floor. Still wondering how I'm going to go about doing the hoses.

Both the Disco boxes I used had the "goose neck" drop arm as standard, but no problem swapping the droparms if you Disco box has the straight arm, the droparm from the manual box will fit.

I saw someone posted 1750, that's with all new gear. You can probably do it DIY with second hand gear for under a grand.

Yep, $1750 plus postage, or they'll fit for $2,000

I fitted myself in just over 4 hours and really enjoyed doing the job.

Worth every cent if you ask me

I still haven't had time to bleed it but it seems to have sorted itself out
