Wattyle And Protec paint, Olive drab its not the same

I have been using wattle Olive drab lustless paint, wonderfull stuff, dull with a matt finish, of course for me I require a slight protective so i will matt lacquer when its done.

A few weeks ago I did not have my paint with me, so I had to do a long run to a Protec shop, who had 342-1166 camouflage green in stock lustless, great get in there i thought, however all did not turn out well, the finish is very shinny compared to the Wattyle paint. More like Gloss, you could polish it is thats shinny, so I aint too pleased.

As far as I can remember the wattyle paint I bought 4 months ago 151603.04 - Paint, olive drab, lustreless automotive enamel (4 litre can) (NSN 8010-66-025-5002) it was made up for me specially as its not a stock item, unlike the Protec one...

Whats going on?

I've used the Protec paint. It worked for me.
Your doors look as if they're still wet, drenched even.
Take the paint back. It may be a faulty batch.
They do have an expiry date on the cans. Are they within the date?

It dryed gloss, can't be right.  Iam going to get some more wattyle in the morning.

The protec paint needs stirring for a long time and better done in the paint shop, the additive to make it lusterless is very heavy and sinks to the bottom and then takes a lot to get it back into suspension.

I have used the protec paint for a couple of years and looks just like the wattle stuff we used in the 80,s but it is available in semi gloss and gloss it may have been miss labeled?

Yep i think its gloss, not semi gloss.

Protec and not wattyl is the correct paint.

The Protec comes off the spray gun with a sheen - almost gloss that weathers down to the correct matt in a couple of months.

When I painted my 101 with it in mid 09 I was also concerned that it had too much gloss but it is fine now.

Mine didn't Garry, or at least not so that it was that noticeable...not as obvious as Juddy's anyway but just a very slight sheen and not at all glossy, but nowhere near as flat and powdery as the very old weathered paint that was on it

And the Wattyle paint I have been using is 90% flat this gives a very original look ( but can easily mark ) so we use a Matt lacquer.  The Protec paint is like you would have on a sports car, you could Polish it and see your face in it.  I have got some more Wattyle and its spot on, will have to take the other one and get it converted, could use it on something else one day...

 Don't think Mr Porsche would be impressed with the finish on Castrol. Something is obviously wrong with what you have got or done to be that shiny.
