I assume a jerry can goes on one door but does anyone know what went on this door? It has a narrow holder.

Tower signals are a system of coloured light signals that originate from the airfield control tower giving the driver instructions

Very complete unit. You have a good project there.
How is the chassis and powerplant condition?

The plate "EC" 67 etc is recording the date of delivery to Eastern Command fleet. The nomenclature plate is straightforward, see: http://www.remlr.com/data-plates.html

Hi AUSMV
The control tower on an airfeild has a light in it or  on it and when a vehicle is on the tarmac you have to keep an eye out for it as the controler will flash a sequence of flashes as indicated on the decal.

G'day AUSMV,

Well done on picking up a great looking ambulance, it looks very complete.

It would be interesting to know which airfield it served on, Oakey would be a possibility, as a field run solely by the Army.

The light signals decal is, as others have said, a reminder of the possible signals the tower can use to control vehicles around the airfield.

The tower also uses them to control aircraft with radio failure or no radio ops.

The controllers have a 3 colour light that usually looks like a big spotlight for this job.

Most vehicles were / are fitted with a radio, so the light signals are only a backup if the radio fails.

You do not usually want to see the last one, a visit to the tower after that one is unlikely to be just social!

Cheers,

Mike.

A great looking, and complete looking, unit.

From memory the rack on the back door opposite the one for a water jerry (the fuel jerry goes in the side locker) was for a collapsible stretcher if I recall.  That said, i've never seen a photo of one fitted there.

Our records indicate that Gordon R, remlr 097 is or was a previous owner of the vehicle.
