BTW the 6.9 Merc fetched $66,000!
And to think, about five years ago, I was offered one in far better condition for $20,000.
Silly me passed it up.

112-166 was in SVN, a RAEME W'shop truck, Rob Moseley's W'shop in fact and it was def. Series 2, but after RTA it was rebuilt with another RAEME body, not a GS rear tub. If the GS body was done by 2 Base rebuild, the BBB entry would've been changed.

In the photos of the For Sale veh, we see the firewall may be Series 2 as the steering wheel and shaft is Series 2. But who knows without an inspection.

We've had the discussion on this vehicle before and if my memory serves me correctly the owner is a member of the REMLR forum or maybe the AULRO forum.

112-166 109 1961 .  Series 2 c6032 unk 153101763 - - NSW. body transfered onto chassis 25304001A.

It comes back to the issue/debate about the identity of vehicles, if you go by civilian rules the identity of the chassis is the identity of the vehicle irrespective of what plate gets affixed.  IMHO if 153101763 was the chassis under 112-166 in SVN then the SVN history remains with that chassis and not with the subsequent GS body and ARN (as noted in the database)

174-434 109 1969 - Series 2A 6028B Truck, Utility, 3/4 Ton, GS, Cargo With Winch 25329817K 153101763 - 750x16  Original Chassis 25328105D replaced in 1973. 09.07.80

If anyone were interested in the vehicle to return it to it's SVN guise, I have a trailer workshop platform that will be surplus to requirements, it will however need a little repair of some rust in the rear c section.

How could these so called civilian rules possibly have anything to do with military history, particularly when the military system in place then and now tracked the vehicle identity by ARN.

Yes it had a chassis swap. Who cares ? All that does is add to the vehicles story...  112-166 still served in Vietnam and is lucky to have such a rich pictorial history.

That's the problem though, which vehicle can lay claim to the "rich pictorial history"? The SVN chassis with a 2A GS body on it, or another 2A chassis with the Series 2 Workshop body that features in all the pictures? Or do both? Or was 112-166 parted out and no longer exists as a "vehicle with history"?

Not much point in the speculation. 112-166 is on record as having a chassis swap. No different to having an in service engine swap, of which it appears to have had two (1969 & 73)... it's still the same vehicle, just as the Army treated it as the same vehicle.

Do we know for a fact that the rear tub was a done by a previous owner ?  Or was it also done whilst in service sometime after the rebuild and not recorded in the BBB ? .... best not to speculate...

It looks to be a great basis for a restoration. Will it require a bit of effort to get it back to its former glory ? Not really. No more than most other restorations.... once the parts are found, it's all about time and patience. Once completed it would be a very nice & valuable vehicle.

To avoid any further confusion or misquotes, the vehicle's service details (according to REMLR) are attached.

Not much point in the speculation. 112-166 is on record as having a chassis swap. ... it's still the same vehicle, just as the Army treated it as the same vehicle.

But this vehicle sits on that original chassis that was swapped out. Does this make it the historic 112-166, or is 112-166 the vehicle with that ARN and is sitting on a new chassis (25304001A)? I, like you, believe that the other vehicle which had is chassis swapped out is 112-166 and has the SVN history. That is the vehicle that looks like the Series 2 in the photos.

This vehicle is 174-434 (a Series 2A GS) with no apparent SVN history (that we know of) and it received a replacement chassis in 1973, which came off a well photographed vehicle that went to Vietnam (which was 112-166). What you say also applies to 174-434, despite what chassis it's on: "it's still the same vehicle, just as the Army treated it as the same vehicle".
