VERY nice! A bit pricey but nice

Hello Magellan,

It is the first time I have seen a FFR with the 24 volt alternator and a dickie seat still in place. Mine just came with the empty spaces in those areas. Also the FFR has the blackout lights.

Kind Regards
Lionel

Yeah you're right Lionel, but I can't see the generator just the 12v alternator (I think that's what you're referring to). Needs front b/o lights but that's 'small beer'. Must be something in the water in Tassie, prices always seem higher down there  ???

G'day Daryl,

Is that just the 12 volt. My FFR came with the top part of the bracket empty and in the depths below that is  where the 12 volt unit is positioned. With the space filled in with the big lump at the top I thought it must have been the 24 volt unit.

Yes that is what happens with a relatively small bit of land girt by sea ... bit of a captive audience down there. It is part of the supply and demand cycle - they are on the better end of it.

Kind Regards
Lionel

Not argueing but what do you value your FFR at ?
I can see where Magellan is coming from. There have been quite a few come on the market in recent times for between $2k and $3k. Admittedly, not in as good or original condition as this one.
I just don't see any reason to justify the $7k t0 $8k difference.
Having said that, ones as original as that don't come on the market very often. I wonder how much wriggle room there is?

I say old boy, there is a ruddy argument that these are more "rover" than the rice burning perentie. Certainly the sound of the 6 cylinder is much more desirable. Also, the flat frontal look and flares of the perentie are seen as fugly by some. 6 cylinder rovers are rare too. Expect the market to reflect this soon with real land rovers (series land rovers) increasing in value. Further parts availability and price and simplicity are real positives of the proper land rovers. Try rebuilding a jolly rice burner engine and lt95 tranny in a few years time to find this out.

Hi Lionel

aye 'tis.  Mine had the top bracket missing and a bodged up one screwed to where the 24v gen bracket was, it had a later non standard alt fitted and was so far out of alignment withe crank pulley that it chewed out fan belts a rate 'til I had a good look. The wreck I've got for parts had the top bracket (now on mine with remounted alt) and the bottom generator bracket. I've not decided whether to fit that to mine yet

What is this? A rare military rover?

https://www.gumtree.com.au/s-ad/carey-gully/cars-vans-utes/land-rover-and-renault-16-wreck/1142291128

I don't think so. It looks more like a bodgied up 2 or 2A. Have a go at the steptread for the grille!! Wouldn't be worth much I reckon - Rust has just about consumed it.
