pintle eye / lunette
« on: July 07, 2014, 09:00:20 PM »
gooday.  enjoy this site. so much info to absorb. what im looking for is a pintle eye to suit a no5 trailer. not urgent and cant justify the 300 odd dollars some ask. I have a tregg hitch currently adapted to the trailer but would prefer pintle  as my other trailer uses pintle.

regards cactus

Keep watching fleabay etc.
Or,.  check some of the larger disposal stores or vehicle breakers.  It'll take time.
The prices aren't coming down for them but the one bright light is that "-
Now that heaps of them have been sold at the auctions lots of people are adapting them
to normal Ball connections with the result that the Lunettes might start surfacing.
I've still gotta find one more yet.
Some of the earliest Trailers sold were from compound storage or cannibalised and
came without Lunettes.

Al-ko bolt-on lunette is about $120, try a specialised bearing or trailer parts outlet

May not suit the no5 setup

given the last few months have seen a few more number 5s go through the auctions , anyone interested in swapping the ring and holder for a tregg and holder modified to suit.

couple of pics hope they suffice.  the plate the ring passes through was shimmed to take the tregg shaft.  was done by previous owner so im not sure of exact sizes .

Hi Cactus,

Does the treg rotate etc as it should? If so, I could be interested.

rotates 360 deg on the shaft plus the normal tregg movement.  as far as  I know the tregg has only done delivery miles for the trailer.  the rubber or insert tubes have no wear to speak of.  the car side of the tregg is there as per pics but the tongue isn't included. its just a normal hayman reece type of tongue that the tregg bolts through the towball hole.  I use a pintle hook on my no5 trailer. im also building a camper trailer utilising a workshop trailer chassis that had this tregg attached. it doesn't sit as level as I would like hence the desire for the original pintle hook set up. it just sits level behind the 110 defender.  albeit it a little more inclined to rattle where as the tregg is silent. price im prepared to pay to keep things standard on the trailers.

cheers
