The frequencies I mentioned in the set are in the Outpost Service spectrum, amateur radio ops arn't allowed to operate in that area.  Their licence doesn't cover that part of the spectrum.

What you need is an Outpost Mobile licence available from ACMA.  Irrespective of that, in an emergency to life limb or property, you are permitted to use any equipment and frequency you have available, whether the equipment or operator is licenced or not.

Your other option would be to join VKS737 which gives you a licence to operate on their frequencies (you need to have the redundant RFDS channels replaced by:
5455 kHz   
3995 kHz  No sked traffic - free for general & telephone use by authorised VKS-737 subscribers.
6796 kHz  No sked traffic - free for general & telephone use by authorised VKS-737 subscribers.
8022 kHz  The primary channel for all skeds.
10180 kHz  No sked traffic - free for general & telephone use by authorised VKS-737 subscribers.
11612 kHz 
14977 kHz 

Keep the active RFDS frequencies to fill the remaining chanel slots.  IIRC the 7727 is crystal locked, so you need to acquire the correct ones and swap them over.  (Someone with arte et mente should be able to do that.  , someone like me is usually manu et frangimus)

If you just want it for display, turn it on and check around for activity on the channels, its no different to listening on a scanner.  The problem would be if someone pressed the PTT on the microphone. 

What some people do is put a microphone jack into the speaker wire and use a MP3 player to input an audio track.  I have a scanner that I can plug into one of the speakers on the FFR, but I had to install a pre-amp into the circuit to get any volume out of the speaker.

That's the way to go Anthony.  I have an old ipod slaved into an external speaker on my PRC-10. On it I have recordings of 7 RAR and 1 Armd Regt in combat. Coming through the tinny Army speaker, it sounds as real as it gets.

The ipod is hidden away in the golf bag 😊

Worked out a plan to get the steering relay took 3-4 days and lots penetration final got it out. Method used: took all the guts out re caped and shoved a old chisel tip down middle rocked backward and forwards, put timber on chassis and bottle jack under the bottom of the steering relay. So a simply drill to remember 123 rock and 123 jack

NO NO ROCK the Relay than Jack the relay. what happens is the jack get lose not tight and what rocking of relay does is losing the rusted sides. one jacking + one rocking = going up and out LOL

Its easier if you do it before removing the engine.  Only because of the weight counteracting the jacking.

I guess its why many people rebuild the relay in the chassis.

Dad to blame stripped down to chassis way before i owned it, to put everything on the other chassis for temporary 3 yrs later or was that 4 yrs and came from the wreckers with no motor and gearbox anyway.

Any antenna you have in your CB radio gear is unlikely to be suitable for the frequencies in the set.  Unless you have an antenna matcher.  The reason is that the CB frequencies are at 27MHz while your set has frequencies  2 through 8 MHz.  The HF radio would have had a multi-tap antenna with a wander lead like the one in the image below.

While I don't recognise all the frequencies, some of them are current RFDS Outpost Service and others are now redundant frequencies for the bases in the NT, Qld and NSW which no longer offer the HF service.

Underlined RFDS HF base stations still operating.
Channel 1: Meekatharra/Pt Augusta/Darwin
Channel 2: Pt Headland/Meekatharra/Derby
Channel 3: Pt Headland/Meekatharra/Carnarvon/Kalgoolie
Channel 4: Alice Springs
Channel 5: Darwin
Channel 6: Meekatharra
Channel 7: Alice Springs
Channel 8: Unk
Channel 9: Unk
Channel 10: Darwin

None of the channels are VKS737 and 7550 and 8144 may be the channels operated by the previous owner.

Take a look at the power the Bohle river transmitter is putting out!

If you listen in on 8.144 you should get some good audio to record for your ipod.
