Wattyl Lustreless Olive Drab
« on: May 22, 2014, 11:12:08 PM »
I've been chasing up Wattyl for some of this but it is a deleted item now. They may be able to supply the colour in their 'Agricultural coatings' range, however it would need the matting agent added. I'm awaiting info on pricing and availability, in the mean time does anyone have a quantity they'd like to part with? I need to respray my bonnet, brush bar & bumper and two road wheels

cheers, Daryl

The Wattyl and Protec paints are noticably different in colour.  You will also find the Wattyl product in the industrial catalogue rather than automotive.

I find the Wattyl oxidises badly and is harder than Protec to keep looking good.

Wattyl Blacktown had several 20lt drums in stock a couple of years ago.

Thanks all for your replies and help. Wattyl are looking into it for me but I'll contact Wattyl Blacktown and see if they still have some.

I had my local Watty shop make mine up for the Workshop...

Where and how long ago Juddy? One presumes they had access to the formula?

How many litres do you think you'd need to paint the whole truck? I rather not that but if the colour can't be matched then I may have to

cheers

Both are flat lusterless.  Just that Protec is more freely available at this time.

Wattyl have not made the paint in over twenty years protec supply camo green for 60.00 for 4 litres
to get wattyle to mix the paint it costs dearer than protec paint as you have to supply a sample  to wattyle and they wont guarantee the colour

there is a company at thornside that will try and match the colour

protec will supply camo  green to public but wont supply the other part i.e antiradiation / thermal reduction  unless you are a defence contractor or have a purchase order from defence according to protec rocklea

Have you asked them about mixing to the Wattyl code 151603?

Wattyl paint has advised that they cannot guarantee the colour even if they use their colour matching because there is a difference between colours that came from Wattyl technical services 15 may 2014 they advise use current defence supplier

Is the colour that much different? Do you think it would it be noticeable from panel to panel? If I painted the whole truck would that look out of place for it's age? (1978)

cheers, Daryl

Yes

It would be noticeable on different panels on the one vehicle.

A significant number of vehicles restored in the last 10 years will have been done with Protec camouflage green.  Many of us prefer it because it is easier to keep looking fresh.
