Getting ready for the 25th
« on: April 18, 2014, 07:37:28 PM »
I'm a day or two behind schedule but catching up ;) slowly. I know my right arm is telling me something, LOL (pain)
Today I managed to wash 3 Land Rovers, starting with the 'Bloodbox', the turret was filthy dirty, the engine is not running as good as I would like either, I fitted an electronic ignition some time ago and also stripped the carburetor and replaced all gaskets etc, I know I most likely haven't got it set up right, but hopefully it will do the job on the 25th.
Next on was 113-372, it always comes up nicely after a wash

then 112-587 aka 'Wee-Wullie' coming out of retirement snagged a Salisbury diff on the front bumper which in turn snagged something else which caused this :-[ >:(

and to add to the misery, 112-587  just up around the corner and ran out of fuel ::) :-[
After lunch the madness continued, 172-562 refused to start  ??? >:( :-[ she would only run with a drink straight down the carburetor, so off with the fuel line to the carb, manipulate the handle on the pump, no action etc, so off with inlet fuel line, remove pump.
The valves were stuck which I knew before I removed the pump, just a light touch with a blunt tool to free them up. The trap for new players here is when you have removed the 8 screws that hold the pump body together, when re-assembling put all 8 screws in loosely , then hold the pump in a vice with soft jaws, then activate the pump arm by pulling the diaphragm down, while holding the arm (to keep the diaphragm down) tighten the screws evenly and firmly, when this is done release the arm, that way you wont tear the diaphragm when the pump starts to work, here is the pump after freeing the valves

It did start and run, moved out of the shed, run around the block, back for a wash, clean the tyres etc, park it up along with the others ;)
anyway that's been part of my day, still more to come, cheers Dennis :P

Great looking vehicles Dennis. I'm thinking a little series 2 shortie would be a great addition to my land rover family, just waiting for the right one to pop up (for the right price)
Anyway I'm curious about the black and white no. plates, are they the actual vehicle registration or just for decoration? When I tried to get my perentie registered as its ARN they told me I couldn't have numbers only :(

G'Day Folks. At short notice I may be driving the Perentie in 2 parades.
I am looking to borrow a set of gardening tools for the day for display purposes.
Is there anyone on the Northside of Bris that aren't using theirs on the day?
Thanks in Advance, Dave.
Kind Regards, Barefoot Dave.

Well what a day weather wise, I awoke @ around 0430hrs to the sight n sounds of the boom crash opera aka thunderstorm, bugger I said to self.
Around 0630 I started to move Land Rovers out from under cover etc and park up waiting for their respective drivers, when it started to bucket down, the open topped vehicles got a drenching.
I watched the storm on the internet and guessed by 1030hrs it would have moved well away and it did, the first Land Rover was away in pouring rain @ 0900hrs to secure our spot for ease of veterans right in front of the Ex-Services club, here they all are, only 7 made it.

the lead vehicle suffered a deflated tyre LHS rear so that needed attention quickly, also a late withdrawal 'Gladys' the S2A 109 Wksp vehicle would not start, unless you poured fuel down the throat of the carburetor, so rather than muck about trying to find ??? the why etc again I withdrew it from the parade and contacted a disappointed driver, at this stage I'm unsure why it wouldn't start n run, but I will find out.
The parade got underway right on time 1115hrs

it all went well, no issues except my mate forgot to push the choke home on the gunbuggy it was a tad smokey LOL, anyway here is one of the elderly gents ex RAAF, he really enjoyed his ride as he did last year, he hopes to be able to participate again in 2015

anyway we had to leave before the service finished as it was starting to rain again, anyway that has been my day cheers Dennis :)

This morning after yesterdays game with the carburetor off my 'Bloodbox', it is now running 95% better than it did on Friday (the problems of having more than 1 vehicle :-\), then a quick job on the rh front hub on 112-655 to suppress an oil leak, and with that fixed I turned my attention to why the 109 Wksp truck would not start last Friday.
I gathered the tools and an extension lead for my trouble light, removed the spare off the bonnet  :P that's a difficult task in a confined space, lift the bonnet right back, remove air cleaner etc.
Looking down the throat of the Zenith carb, activate the throttle and guess what!!!, no fuel being pumped in by the accelerator pump??, is it because of ?? maybe the fuel pump?, undo the outlet side of the fuel pump, prime the pump to see fuel gushing out, OK the pump is working, so the issue has to be in the Zenith, so off with it.

Once the top was off, it was clearly obvious that fuel was getting into the Zenith, but not getting out, the problem stared at me in the face, the ball at the base of the accelerator pump was stuck!!!, how the %$#@ that happened in a space of about 11 hours is beyond me, a quick touch with a pointed tool and it was free to move etc, re-assemble the Zenith, prime the carb, pull choke on turn ignition on and start the engine, and that's exactly what happened.
While all this was going on I had my boom box playing all manner of 60's music, I guess you could say I'm in a time warp, anyway here is a short clip to the background of 'Billy J Kramer' Bad to Me
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gRC-ECxpYYM&list=UUDUQng9nBYUyOD1OEO5jbDw
then this afternoon I headed out to Laguna to remove some windscreen wiper assemblies, I think I'm going to convert all my 2A's to the single motor job, at least they work well, anyway that's been my day cheers Dennis :)
