AWM Image Collection - possible errors.

Was doing an image search on the M113 variants and came across this image.



The description on the image is (part): " An armoured personnel carrier of the Defence and Employment Platoon, Headquarters Company, 1st Australian Task Force (1 ATF)"

Is this vehicle an "armoured personnel carrier"?  Its not an M113A1 variant.

Is it an engineers carrier or something?

Not m113  no idler wheel. :) road wheels look the same could be a T113 the FMC proposal that lead to the m113 but it would not be aussie AFAIK only the US got a few of them for trials

What about a heavy lift/recovery vehicle possibly built on the chassis of the M109 Abott self propelled gun of that era. (US)

M578 Light Armoured Recovery Vehicle. Not operated in any official capacity by 1ATF. Developed from the T120 and T120E1 Light Recovery vehicles. Produced by BMY of York, Pennsylvania, as prime contractor. Powered by a Detroit 8V71T diesel. 

Like many, many AWM image captions, it is incorrect in detail.

Hi Mike

When an error is identified, do we contact the AWM?  And what is the best method of doing that?

Similarly, when searching the image collections of the NAA, I have found a number of images on the Snowy scheme where the slide has been scanned from the wrong side.  Do you know if the NAA is interested in correcting these errors?

AWM image errors: send suggested corrections with supporting evidence to the Duty Curator in Photo Film and Sound at photographs@awm.gov.au (Richard: this address can be left in full, as it appears on the AWM's website, viz:" If you have any relevant information regarding photograph captions, contact the Photographs Duty Curator at photographs@awm.gov.au ").

I have not dealt with the NAA regarding their image collection. Their general email is ref@naa.gov.au so that is probably the best place to start.
