Opinions needed....

Hi everyone. I have been toying with the idea of putting a sort of tribute to D Coy 6 RAR - Battle of Long Tan. Mainly due to my GS being previously used by D Coy 6RAR. My main dilemma is that I aim to use my GS off road (nothing too serious). Being Ex-Army myself, I know all too well the respect that those guys deserve.

So I'm faced with:
- doing it only to possibly scratch or dent it off;
- what would be a suitable tribute - original Vietnam era markings or something to commemorate that day in history, either on both doors or front vents.

Hi Aaron,

I'd do a nice resto on it & use the 6 RAR & 1ATF tac signs. For static displays, why not put together a display board with a D Coy theme.

I wouldn't paint anything on the vehicle itself. In my opinion it distracts from what could otherwise be a great resto. Would the D Coy guys have done it that way ?

Excellent. I am also restoring for the 50th in 2016. Many younger people don't have any idea about our svn battles... so I am aiming to have a display board with AWM photo reprints. Pictures are worth 1000 words they say. Maybe a story dedicated to a local KIA. Also a uniform and kit. No SLR however... but maybe an old tranny, or something very 'sixtes'.

Thanks everyone for the ideas. I think I'll go with doing up a few tac plates with 6 RAR & 1 ATF markings as well as maybe another with the RAR badge and the date of the Battle of Long Tan.

Just re-reading my original post, and I forgot to mention that the vehicle is a '88 GS 110 4x4 (sorry guys). So with wanting to keep it as original as possible the tac plates are the best bet. Now to find myself a couple of poles to raise my aussie and ANZAC flags for the upcoming ANZAC day.
