A run up Duck Creek Rd (pre the rebuild)
« Reply #15 on: June 03, 2012, 05:14:04 PM »
Coops & I decided to take the Ex-Mil out for a run along Duck Creek Road at Beaudesert (inland from the Gold Coast).

Our first stop was at Canungra to get petrol. After pulling out from the servo we saw another ex-mil landie, so stopped to chat to the driver. What is it with land rover owners? They are like remoras.....they cling on and you can't get away :D :D :D Took a photo of his vehicle.

On to Beaudesert, watching the water temp guage all the way as it fluctuated up and down. Stopped at Macca's for coffee and cake and checked the coolant level only to find it a tad low, so ran across the road to AutoOne and bought 10 litres of coolant just in case!!

Onto Kerry Rd (which funnily enough goes to Kerry) and took pics of the scenery.........

Onto DucK Creek Rd, a 4WD dry weather only track, as very steep uphill in places, as it climbs and climbs and climbs ad infinitum.

Stopped halfway up for lunch. Two lobster thermidores and a magnum of champers, tasted just like a cheese sandwich and a coke   :D :D :D :D Bloody over-rated!!

And so up and up....some great lookouts on the way

At the top was Luke O'Reilly's Farm and O'Reilly's Resort, but there are people there, that come up via the easy bitumen road (wimps), so we didn't stop there (didn't go anywhere near it!!). At the top we did a U-turn and came back the same way.

Duck Creek Rd is about 10k long and takes about an hour each way (at grandpa Coops speed  ;) ). It isn't anything extreme but very steep up and down on the way back which means you can't do it too fast anyway. Coops drove up the road and I drove back...I had gravity on my side but it didn't make it any faster!! and Coops opening the passenger door and sticking his boot on the road didn't help  ;) )He said he was scared....the big jessie!!

Spot the land rover  :D

Great pics V. Pity one of them was horrible.
You certainly live in a beautiful part of the country.
I must drive up one day and give you an assisting push up and down the road.

She is also faster with buttons than me, though that can be an advantage sometimes. ::) Anyway, yes, she is the one for clicky and snappy things, i am more your bump and grind kind of guy. 8) Hammers and angle that is. ;)

She is actually very good with the clicky thing. Has had her weather pics featured an the Austar weather channel many times, and one of them was picked for their 2013 calendar. Little miss smarty pants that she is. 8)

 Coops.

HI, looks like it could be a civilian S2a made to look like an Army one, no cut out guards, standard spring hanger height, hole in grill for bonnet release, incorrect side mirrors...

Do you think it was real, are they on REMLR?

Cheers
Scott

Also no blackout light, TAC plate not on a bracket, bug eye headlights - but it still looks pretty good

It was definitley ex-mil. Before 1960/61 the guards were not cut. I saw the plates. Not sure whether I took pics of them, pretty sure I put the details on REMLR for Phoenix. I'll see if I can find the details

Here we go.....

1961 S2 109 GS has had a chassis transplant (info from the owner) but the nomenclature plate shows original chassis number

and according to REMLR.com

That's 112-159. Automotive repair shop, Truck mounted, 3/4 tonne, GS, with winch, Garage.
Census# 6043B

Disposed of 07.12.82

Contract 107253
