Cam netting
« on: February 20, 2014, 02:17:52 PM »
I have a 7 to 8ft wide 16ft long cam net, purchased 20 years ago, with a nylon netting base. Its mud brown and olive.

I have been looking at Aussie Disposals etc and Gumtree etc, and I have only seen cheap chinesey stuff around. I would like a second of similar dimensions to mate together. Has anyone seen some vendors? Are such items seen at Corowa most years?

The SME has dozens of them surplus all thrown into a krazy pallet.  There is even some old WWII - SVN style scrim netting with the rolls of hessian strip.  I'm trying to get them to auction them individually at Bandiana or via the Gumtree when the rest of the collection goes to market.  I even wanted them to do an auction somewhere like Corowa Swim-In.

As it is it will likely go to the tip or as a pallet lot and some vendor will buy them all.  :(

I'm sure amongst all us us here we'd buy the lot! how do we become the one who buys the pallet lot!

In the olden days you could buy stuff from the Commonwealth by tender but not these days.  I even tried to buy a set of buggy screens, but no go.  The only way stuff goes out the door in the last decade or so is via auction or in a rubbish skip.  :'(

Here's a new source that's appeared: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/CAMO-NET-NEW-NETTING-6M-X-3M-CAMOFLAGE-BACKDROP-DECORATION-OLIVE-GREEN-/221285004391?pt=AU_Hunting&hash=item33859d3467&_uhb=1

Feebay has so much Hong Kong plastic junk...

I did see the Aussie Disposals at Albury sell cam net off the roll (by the metre) with 3 different patterns.

Also, today I spotted Hesian at Bunnings - its on a roll, sold by the metre, and its 1.8m wide. $5 a metre. Its in the section that has the rolls of artificial grass. No doubt its all from china as well, but hesian would appear to be hesian - its good enough for those window covers, wheel covers and headlight covers etc.

:) back from a good time at Corowa. I have two big Aussie cam nets now. At the swap I saw other REMLR members buying up cam nets too. Top stuff.

Here is the "REMLR CP" set up with cam nets which was well before the Saturday swap. Next year, sand bagged perhaps (using other things than sand as a filler).

The cam netting was held up and moved using SOP hardwood poles fitted with "mushroom heads". I noted the NSN and maker of the heads.

If these are hard to obtain, and I expect they are like gold, what about gluing two of these plumbing caps from Bunnings as a work-around? Or finding a similar product.

It has to be strong and enable drilling a eyelet size hole in the centre to fit a tarp-pole top, the ones made to fit in a canvas tarp eyelet for instance. BCF etc have those gal steel tarp poles. I have a few already.

Any other suggestions? Big empty milo tins?

Just saw a old witches hat/traffic cone today at the tip shed. Too heavy, but it made me think; why not just use old boots from an op shop as a pole top?

I got lucky and picked up a mushroom head today. Could have more soon if they find where they put them.

A local works somewhere.that used to use them. A week back he walks by my house for exercise and called in for a chat as he had seen a 'Rover hereabouts.
