vehicle tac numbers
« on: February 04, 2014, 03:55:57 PM »
Regards that Tac with the number 32.    In an earlier Century around the era of Series 2 and Series 2A the Armoured Tac of Red over Yellow with 32 belonged to 2/14 Qld Mounted Inf.  At least till 1986 when it amalgamated with 3/4 Cav.
Anyone got a time frame on 2Cav with that number  ??

Sorry, didn't know 2/14th Queensland Mounted Inf. ever left Qld.
I'll defer to learned minds re the number 32 then.

I'll check the Formation Signs book tonight, however IIRC the unit serial for the same type of unit can be the same but under different Div or Bde.

BTW: I have a 2Cav cap badge at home, Geoff, if you don't still have one, maybe I should give it to you?

Tac sign 32 also applied to 2/14 LHQMI(previously A SQN 3/4 Cav.I have found some photos from my time there in Tech Suppt that can confirm this(and had conformation from others).Another vehicle that has been labeled as 2Cav is the Ambulance variant known as ERV "TIRED".I have personal knowledge of that vehicle(see MY LONGEST DRIVE THREAD...some where on here). The photo was taken between A..B/C Sdn buildings, looking at RHQ.Im getting off track on this post so let me know where to post other info.Cheers.

Here's the history of 2 cav from wiki its almost word for word from the unit site which I cant find at the moment ;)

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2nd_Cavalry_Regiment_(Australia)

B sqn 2 cav was A sqn 2/19 QMI

I think Diana might have the answer 2 CAV is 1 div and QMI is 2nd div so both could have the same tac number but different div sign

Under: Field Force Comd, 1 Armd Regt = 30 --- Comd HQ 1 TF
Under: HQ 2 Div 1/15 RNSWL = 37 --- Comd HQ 2 Div
 "           "   "   "   2/16 HRL = 32 --- Comd HQ 2 Div
Under: HQ 3 Div 1/19 PWLH = 32 --- Comd HQ 3 Div
 " " " " ' " "   A Sqn 1/13 VMR = 38  --- Comd HQ 3 Div
Under: HQ 4 Div A Sqn 3/19 SAMR = 32
Under: HQ 5 Div A Sqn 10 LH = 32
Under: Comd 1 TF 2 Cav Regt = 32 -- Comd HQ 1 Div
Under: Comd HQ 3 TF, B Sqn 3 Cav = 34 --- becomes 3/4 Cav
Under: Comd HQ 6 TF, 4 Cav = 33  --- becomes 3/4 Cav = 34
Under: Comd HQ 1 FF Gp, A Sqn, 2/14 QMH = 32  --- Comd HQ 7 TF

If that all makes sense.

During my time at 2/14 LH we were ARA, with a Ready Reserve capability under the auspices, of 6 Brigade based at Enoggera Qld.Hope this helps  and allay some confusion.

Will look when I get home (still at work - doing really boring stuff) but the 103 has to be prior to Sept. 77.

I seem to remember people in Sydney putting 103 on signs for 1/15 RNSWL.

Really a bit tired this morning so a little muddled,  Can't find 103 relating to any armoured  unit back as far as 1942, at one point (1946 or 1948) 3 Cav has 105.

The only times I have found 103 relating to a unit serial it was a transport unit.  Or 103 over 292 for 103 Const sqn etc or elsewhere for 103 sigs.

There is a big gap in the VOSOS and VUS between 1960 and 1977 so  that would be the period to research.
