That's not lichen,

THIS is lichen..... ;D

It looks like there has been a mass lichen slaughter in the last few weeks.......

Very satisfying to get rid of it though.

my trailer had very little lichen on it.

The lichen is the Toolern Vale version of the Frontline Machinery Badge

Looks like it prefers olive drab to RAAF camouflage paint then.

As most have worked out Road Patrol was in the Ian Tankard collection at Toolern Vale, I nearly bought the wrong one, until a little bit more research and thinking it through.

So Road Patrol has been sitting quietly in the same spot for 22 years, purchased by Ian in 1993 from Broadmeadows, REMLR database says

113-813   109   1965   -   Series 2A   6043A   Automotive Repair Shop, Truck mounted, 3/4 ton, GS, Garage   unk   153001042   -   750x16   314   NSW. Original Chassis 25312712B was replaced with 153001042 which is also listed for vehicle ARN 111-383 . Broadmeadows auction. Pic: Vietnam
Veitnam photo with hard top fitted   26.03.93

Road Patrol would have been rebuilt once back from Vietnam, the plate on the firewall has the original chassis number and the plate in the photo shows rebuild with 153001042 chassis as a replacement, in the Army the chassis is simply just another part that can be replaced, 111 - 383 appears to have been scrapped at this point.

So at this point I've only brought it home and haven't pressure washed the lichen off yet.

Attached photos,

rebuild plate
As found
on the trailer
at home, standing square and high
covered with tarp - no longer does it have to sit out in the weather!

Regards
Scott

Just out of curiosity Scott, have you checked the chassis number on the chassis?

Looking forward to the restoration and I vote it should be back to road patrol in Vietnam with all the signs put back on (would be an interesting vehicle). Did you rub down the driver guard down yet, look at the road patrol photo there a name and something else on the guard.

No not yet, looks like a name or something in White closer to the door, then something in red closer to the front of the guard

2 Div Tac
71 Tac
Wombat - I'm told either 29th or 52nd combat supply Co.

Can anyone confirm the TAC plates match the wombat etc

Hi Scott,

It's a transport company Tac Plate and I'm thinking 8 Transport Company. Back in those days there was a combat supply platoon co located / attached / under of each Transport unit . I think they were all called combat wombats?

Having said that I could be wrong and happy to stand corrected.

Cheers,

Mick
