my truck has this tube, looks like it has recently had something on it, but I got it this way, what is it for, air comes out when motor is running

I'm certain that it's for crankcase ventilation, my 84 County Isuzu has it, should have a length of rubber hose to vent outside LH front wheel well hope that's of some help cheers Dennis

Yep, crankcase ventilation. There is normally a thin rubber hose with wire spring clamp attached to the end. Hangs down past the s/motor.
