Hi there

They are a great looking rig although could only imagine the fuel consumption.

In the first 9 years after leaving the army it lived across the top end from Cape York to the Kimberleys before being laid up for 9 years in Newcastle.  This is ex 16ad with ARN 29-419.  It (or at least the drivers door) was called Badly Charred.

On a good day I am getting 14mpg (20l/100km) but goes down to about 8mpg and a bad day - on LPG always 8-11mpg.

Hi Garry,
That has turned into a nice truck.
I bet those new tyres have improved the off & on road driving ability.
The radials stopped the Stage 3's wandering all over the road.
How would you discribe the improvement to other's?

To be honest I have hardly noticed any difference.  They are certainly quieter but on road handling and feel is about the same but there is no flatspotting when parked in cold climates.  Grip is certainly a lot better in the wet.

Offroad I am sure they are better as they will bag out a bit more but there is not much in it.  The tyres I have are actually a bit smaller in diameter than the originals so the motor which struggles a bit to push a 101 along has a little more zoom zoom.

One of the real benefits will be mileage I will get out of them - somewhere around 60K where the old tyres will not get much more than 25K and there is a bigger range of tyres available.  The other is that these are tubeless so emergency repair is much easier.

cheers

Garry

that must have a brown seat moment?

When you are as good a 4wd driver as I am - never  ::)

Through experience though, I have come to respect deep one wheel holes when going down hill - no momentum and on the brakes to slowly drop the wheel in and get ready for the lurch - and the 101 is no where as unstable as the Pinzgauer or Haflinger in similar situations.
