Much appreciated,
I am intrigued with the atatchment of the base to the bumper being only a relatively small chain, I guess I was expecting something that atatched to the lifting eyes.
If you could supply some rough measurements it would make construction easier please.

thanks

Mark

I think you will find it was designed for use with the SIIa, with the chains wrapping around the bumper.

Isn't there a different one for the SIII that uses the towing point/lifting eyes?  (Or at least the attachment points with the angle spreader is replaced by a adapters that connect directly to the towing points)

i have a series 2 and series 1's so the chains go round the bumper and thru the lifting eyes and secured by d shackles.

will try and get time to make a decent drawing up...

I remember using one on a S3 and it looked different to the one in the pic; it had pins to fit the towing/lifting eyes same as the Inters,

Yes, I think the Land Rover recovery 'A' frame shown in the the photos was used to keep the two vehicles separated and controlled whilst the vehicle (being towed) was lifted by the gantry (as shown below). The difference being that the dolly would have been replaced by the 'A' frame. The 'A' frame would have stopped the rear vehicle smacking into the front vehicle.

Good point Tommy!

I was so impressed with the A-frames when I was a digger, that I made my own to tow a Morris Minor ute that I had bought from a cocky and I used chains. I found out rapidly, that if chains are used instead of rigid pins, the towed vehicle wanders all over the place and therefore cannot follow the towing vehicle exactly.

So my great idea wasn't so good, but at least the brake-less Morrie didn't run into the towing car,
